00:00Star Trek is undeniably one of the greatest and most iconic franchises in the history.
00:05of fiction, which over the last 50 plus years has expanded the imaginations of anyone
00:10who has ever sat down to watch it.
00:12This includes, of course, Hollywood's own acting elite themselves.
00:15Many of who grew up with Trek just as the general public did.
00:19Beyond that, some of Trek-
00:20Trek's famous fans have even publicly stated their long-held desire to appear in some-
00:25form of Trek media.
00:26And so, with that in mind, I'm Ellie with Trek Culture, here with-
00:3010 Actors Who Want To Be In Star Trek
00:33Number 10.
00:34Nicolas Cage
00:35Kicking things off with perhaps the single most chaotic choice on this list, we have
00:40Nick-
00:40Nicolas Cage, who while promoting his new Western film, The Old Way, told Yahoo that-
00:45he's a card-carrying Trekkie and would love to join the franchise.
00:49When the interviewer mentioned that-
00:50Pedro Pascal, Cage's co-star in the recent The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, wanted
00:55to-
00:55To recruit Cage to join his Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, Cage replied,
00:59I'm not really down-
01:00I'm a Trekkie man.
01:01I'm on the Star Trek Enterprise.
01:03That's where I roll.
01:04I'm not in the Star-
01:05Star Wars family.
01:06I'm in the Star Trek family.
01:07Cage also expressed a fondness for Trek's history of-
01:10socio-political messaging and praised Chris Pine's performance as the rebooted Captain Kirk-
01:15in the J.J. Abrams produced movies.
01:17With Paramount still hoping to get a fourth Pine-
01:20starring movie before cameras soon, wouldn't Cage make for one hell of an addition to the
01:24cast?
01:25Whether-
01:25her as a Sage-supporting character or riotous villain.
01:28Number 9.
01:29Rosario Dawson
01:30Rosario Dawson gained a whole new generation of fans when she began playing the-
01:35live-action iteration of Star Wars' Ahsoka Tano in both The Mandalorian and The Book of
01:40War.
01:40Boba Fett.
01:41But in a 2020 interview with Variety, Dawson confessed that her ambitions to-
01:45didn't simply end with Star Wars and that she'd love to add Trek to her resume too.
01:49She said-
01:50The two universes, Star Trek and Star Wars.
01:52I get in those two, I'm telling you man, that's it.
01:55I will just retire.
01:56And then I can just concentrate on going to school and running for office.
01:59That would be-
02:00Though Dawson added that she'd happily play a background part as a Romulan or Vulcan, her
02:05own-
02:05father suggested she play a new version of iconic Trek character Q.
02:09Speaking of the poss-
02:10possibilities of playing the dimension-hopping entity, Dawson said,
02:12I mean, it would be great cause then I could jump onto-
02:15Discovery.
02:16I could be on Picard.
02:17I just want to be with Jean-Luc Picard.
02:18Don't we all, Rosario?
02:19Don't-
02:20Number 8.
02:21David Tennant.
02:22David Tennant is of course best known-
02:25for playing surely the most beloved modern iteration of Doctor Who.
02:28And during a 2020 Reddit-
02:30AMA was asked by a fan if there were any major franchises he'd like to tick off his ex-
02:35marketing bucket list by appearing in.
02:37Tennant succinctly responded that he's eager to play a part in-
02:40Star Trek after having some up-close and personal contact with a certain legendary Trek cast
02:45member.
02:45He said,
02:46Star Trek would be great.
02:47After talking to George Takei for the podcast, I've got a bit immersed-
02:50in it.
02:51Tennant certainly wouldn't be the first Doctor Who performer to join the Trek franchise,
02:55but he-
02:55he'd undeniably be one of the most high-profile gets-to-date, and per his impressive versatility-
03:00as a performer could evidently slot into a variety of possible roles.
03:04Number 7.
03:05Mila Kunis
03:06Mila Kunis has repeatedly stated in interviews that she's absolutely-
03:10obsessed with Star Trek, and even went as far as to rank the various Trek series for GQ-
03:15back in 2011.
03:16The Next Generation came out on top, of course, and in 2015-
03:20while speaking to IGN to promote Jupiter Ascending, Kunis reacted with stunned surprise-
03:25upon learning that Deanna Troi actress Marina Sirtis wanted her to play Troi if the next-
03:30generation was ever rebooted.
03:32After recovering from the joyous shock of the news, Kunis replied in-
03:35the affirmative that she'd love to play a new version of Troi, saying,
03:38I love Deanna Troi, she's also-
03:40Awesome!
03:41I would totally put in those contact lenses and call it a day.
03:43Big poofy hair, curl like-
03:45Later in the interview, Kunis admitted that she actually considered contacting J.J.
03:50Abel-
03:50Abrams to be an extra in one of his Trek movies, though in terms of a larger role admitted that
03:55she-
03:55she'd simply prefer to keep watching as a fan.
03:57Even so, a cameo could be fun.
04:00Number-
04:00Number 6-
04:01Paul Giamatti
04:02Paul Giamatti isn't just one of the greatest actors of his generation-
04:05he's one of the greatest actors, period.
04:07As such, he'd be a major credit to any star-
04:10Trek production that'd have him, and as a self-professed sci-fi fan admitted his desire
04:14to join-
04:15the Trek universe when appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in 2019.
04:20He said,
04:21My dearest wish in the world as a child until this moment is to be a Klingon, basically-
04:25or to be something, but for some reason, those jobs don't come to me.
04:28When Colbert added that J.J.
04:30Giamatti doesn't evoke a dangerous air, Giamatti replied that he'd gladly play any role on-
04:35Star Trek, even one of the silly blue guys, presumably referring to Andorians.
04:40Anybody who's seen Big Fat Liar knows that Giamatti looks the part under blue makeup, and it goes-
04:45without saying, he'd absolutely crush the role of a Trek villain of any kind.
04:49Number 5
04:50Katie Sackhoff
04:51Katie Sackhoff is undeniably sci-fi royalty in her own-
04:55right at this point, having risen to fame while playing fan-favorite character Starbuck on
04:59Battleside.
05:00Star Galactica
05:01and since starred as Star Wars' Bo-Katan in both voice-over and live-
05:05action form, and in a 2021 interview with Looper, Sackhoff confirmed that she might not be-
05:10stopping at those Titanic sci-fi franchises.
05:12When asked whether she had designs on any other major-
05:15IP, Sackhoff said,
05:16I mean, I haven't been in Star Trek.
05:18That seems to be the one that's still-
05:20there.
05:21That's still there and still exists for the possibility.
05:23The fact that this hasn't actually happened already-
05:25is honestly pretty surprising, and given Sackhoff's continued popularity as a genre icon-
05:30it feels like a mere matter of time before she wins a beefy role on a Trek TV series.
05:34Make it happen already, Paramount!
05:37Number 4, Tom Hanks
05:39Tom Hanks would be basically the biggest A-list name Star Trek could ever get, a universal-
05:44incredibly beloved actor who, over more than 40 years, has delivered some of the most iconic
05:48performances of-
05:49all-time.
05:50And unlike most everybody on this list, Hanks' name was actually in the conversation-
05:54for a Star Trek role at one point, even if he sadly didn't know about it.
05:58While the filmmakers of Star Trek-
05:59First Contact were locking down casting for the vital role of Zephryn Cochran, the first
06:04human-
06:04one-to-create a warp drive and make contact with the Vulcans, they kicked around the ideas
06:08of offering the part to-
06:09to Hanks.
06:10But in a recent interview on a Josh Horowitz Happy Sad Confused podcast, Hanks-
06:14claimed that he'd never actually been offered the chance to play Cochran, with the part
06:17eventually going to the great-
06:19James Cromwell instead.
06:20Hanks, a huge Trek fan, responded with clear disappointment about never-
06:24learning of the offer, which he would have loved to accept.
06:26Hanks said,
06:27The guy who invented warp drive-
06:29Oh, come on!
06:30I would have jumped on that!
06:31I would have come in and brought gift tribbles to everyone on the-
06:34the first meeting!
06:35I would have done that!
06:36While the potential for Hanks' presence to prove distracting-
06:39in any Trek media speaks for itself, could any producer really say no to him if he formally-
06:44threw his hat in the ring?
06:45Number 3.
06:46Mira Savino
06:47You won't get many bigger stars-
06:49Star Trek fans in Hollywood than Oscar-winning actress Mira Savino, whose father, Paul Savino-
06:54appeared in the Next Generation 7th season episode Homeward, playing Worf's human fossil-
06:59master-brother Nikolai Rajenko.
07:01In a 2018 interview with Syfy, Savino was-
07:04she was asked about her Star Trek passions before becoming an actress and couldn't resist but bring up Star Trek-
07:09saying,
07:10You know what I'm gonna say!
07:11I've been on the record before!
07:12Original Star Trek!
07:13I have the-
07:14I have the dolls, I have the phaser, I've got the little toy set which has the transporter that turns around.
07:18I went to-
07:19conventions as a teenager, I have met most of the original cast while many of them have now passed-
07:24on sadly.
07:25I am the biggest geek for Star Trek ever, and crucially Savino couldn't-
07:29help but advocate for herself appearing on basically any form of Star Trek media in the future adding-
07:34that's my thing, and if I could ever, hint hint, be in any future iterations-
07:38well, as a-
07:39at the end of 2023 it hasn't happened yet, but considering how easy it is to pitch a Solvino player-
07:44playing a dignitary or higher up at Starfleet, it's about time somebody made her dream a reality.
07:49Number 2, Dave Bautista.
07:51Dave Bautista will be imminently making his-
07:54final appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3-
07:59after which he'll be retiring from the Drax role and seeking challenges elsewhere.
08:03It's evident that-
08:04Dave Bautista wishes to be taken seriously as a real actor rather than a wrestler-turned actor.
08:09And he's certainly made a persuasive case for that since leaving the wrestling ring.
08:12But in the summer of 2021-
08:14He's-
08:15He's-
08:16He's-
08:17He's-
08:18He's-
08:19He's-
08:20He's-
08:21He's-
08:22He's-
08:23He's-
08:24He's-
08:25He's-
08:26He's-
08:27He's-
08:28He's-
08:29He's-
08:30He's-
08:31He's-
08:32He's-
08:33He's-
08:34He's-
08:35He's-
08:36He's-
08:37He's-
08:38He's-
08:39He's-
08:40He's-
08:41He's-
08:42He's-
08:43He's-
08:44He's-
08:45He's-
08:46He's-
08:47He's-
08:48He's-
08:49He's-
08:50He's-
08:51He's-
08:52He's-
08:53He's-
08:54He's-
08:55He's-
08:56He's-
08:57He's-
08:58He's-
08:59He's-
09:00He's-
09:01He's-
09:02He's-
09:03He's-
09:04He's-
09:05He's-
09:06The Force Awakens, one suspects his love of major sci-fi franchises hasn't diminished
09:11one bit.
09:12It's just a shame that The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams couldn't have found a way to
09:16insert Craig into his trilogy of Trek reboot movies, yet if the long-gestating fourth film
09:21does ever go into production, there will be ample time to correct that mistake, especially
09:25with Craig's...
09:26...all-consuming Bond role now at an end, whether as a Wink Wink cameo or honest-to-God character
09:31in his own right, Craig has the chops to give us a Trek character either smolderingly intense
09:36or totally hilarious.
09:37And that concludes our list.
