00:001,667. That is how many feet rock climbing legend Alex Honnold climbed to get to the top of the
00:10Taipei 101 skyscraper this weekend. Who knew there were rock climbing legends? Not me, but let me
00:16tell you, what this guy did was as impressive as it was terrifying. He did this insane climb with
00:23no ropes to keep him secured if he fell. Think about how high that is. The 40-year-old American
00:29needed just 90 minutes to scale the glass and steel tower, the world's 11th tallest building.
00:37Fun fact, though, it was number one when it was completed back in 2004, but things just got bigger
00:41from there. Anyway, Honnold is no stranger to the daredevil aspects of climbing. The Sacramento
00:46native is also known for his ropeless ascent of El Capitan in Yosemite and being the first to climb
00:53a 3,700-foot sheer cliff in Greenland, which also sounds cold. Honnold was not the first to scale
01:01Taipei 101, though. A French climber scaled that building back on Christmas in 2004 as a sort of
01:07grand opening event because, you know, that's what you do. He, however, used ropes because sanity.
01:16Honnold's feet caused a big hoopla because it streamed live on Netflix over the weekend. Now,
01:22he declined to tell the New York Times how much he earned for the stunt, calling it an embarrassing
01:26amount. But embarrassing big or embarrassing small. I feel like I would want a big chunk of
01:33change to do that without a net.
