California Governor Gavin Newsom sharply criticised U.S. President Donald Trump’s speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, saying world leaders “learned nothing” from the address. Speaking to reporters, Newsom dismissed Trump’s remarks on Greenland and global leadership as “deeply, significantly insignificant,” arguing that rhetoric has not shifted U.S. policy in any meaningful way.

Trump’s speech triggered mixed reactions across the political spectrum. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham welcomed Trump’s assurance that force was “off the table” regarding Greenland, while Sweden’s Deputy Prime Minister Ebba Busch urged calm diplomacy and rejected pressure tactics against Europe.

The exchange highlights growing divisions among U.S. and European leaders as Trump continues to dominate the agenda at the WEF amid tensions over NATO, transatlantic relations, and global security.

00:34You learned nothing. There was nothing
00:38offered there. It was at times boorish,
00:40but even by Trump standards,
00:42ish. So it was
00:44just remarkable
00:46in its
00:48inconsequential nature.
00:50I expected
00:52more from them. I really did.
00:54It was never on the table
00:56invasion. Give me a damn break.
00:58And so he's exactly
01:00where we were a week or two ago.
01:02But what seems different now
01:04is leadership seems to
01:06be a little bit more, I think,
01:08willing to say
01:10publicly what we all know
01:12they're saying privately. And I think
01:14that was meaningful and was
01:16reflected in today's deeply
01:18significantly insignificant
01:20remarks. Do you think he was disrespectful
01:22of Europe today in that speech?
01:24I mean, I have a big heart. I have
01:26a lot of emotions. But I think
01:28it's interesting to having heard for so
01:30many years that female politicians
01:32are too emotional to be the
01:34utmost leaders. And let's just say
01:36there has been a lot of emotions on
01:38the male leaders on both sides
01:40of the pond for the last few years.
01:42I keep my cool.
01:44And you know, I'm a mother of two.
01:46I don't get flustered easily.
01:48We're going to keep our cool in this and
01:50find a way to work together with our
01:52friends where we're not going to be
01:54blackmailed into a position we're not
01:56prepared to own for a long time.
01:58Very happy. Forces off the table.
02:00Bad idea. Compelling case
02:02that we need Greenland
02:04for the common defense.
02:06Not just for national security
02:08in America, but internationally.
02:10We'll see you next time.
