00:07chief in Malaysian history to face money laundering charges in court. The 58-year-old appeared
00:13before Sessions Court Judge Azura Alwi on Thursday morning, facing four charges of receiving
00:19proceeds from unlawful activities totalling over 2.12 million ringgit. The alleged offences
00:26involved deposits into three bank accounts at different locations in Kuala Lumpur between
00:32February 2024 and November 2025. Mohammad Hafizuddin pleaded not guilty to all charges and requested
00:41a trial. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to five times the
00:48value of unlawful proceeds or 5 million ringgit, whichever is higher, for each charge. During
00:55bail proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Wan-Shaharuddin Wan-Ladin requested RM300,000
01:02ringgit and asked for the accused's passport to be impounded, citing flight risk concerns.
01:08Defence counsel Aizul Rohan Anwar argued the amount was excessive, pointing out his client
01:13served the armed forces for over 40 years and currently receives a monthly pension of RM15,000.
01:20He added that all of Mohammad Hafizuddin's accounts have been frozen due to ongoing investigations,
01:26and that the former army chief also needs to post bail for his wife. Judge Azura set bail
01:32at RM250,000 with two sureties and fixed March 30th for mention.
