00:00Well, welcome back to the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
00:05Now, I'm just a little bit outside of Tamworth.
00:07I'm in a place called Loombra, and I'm joined again by Tom Curtin,
00:10who's going to show us a very interesting working dog display, Tom.
00:15Please tell me a little bit about what you're going to do
00:17and how you're going to do it.
00:18Yeah, we love getting a lot of dogs.
00:20We like trying to put a sit on the dog and a left and a right,
00:24a bit of control, and then they love rounding up anything that moves.
00:27So we found a few goats, so we're going to try to round a few goats up
00:31and then try to put them on the drums because goats love jumping up,
00:35and we're trying to teach them to stay as well, you know.
00:38So it's a little bit tricky, but we have a lot of fun.
00:40All right, guys, without further ado, let's get right into it.
00:42What you're about to see is about three goats and four working dogs.
00:45There's also some horses that are at the ready to get into things.
00:48Tom, please take it away.
00:49Yeah.
00:50Yeah.

01:27Good.
01:27Good job.
01:27He's out.
01:28Good job.
01:29He's out.
01:30An amazing display of concentration from all the animals here.
01:33We now have three goats on the barrels.
01:36And now we have the horses coming into the background here, which you're about to see something
01:41really special, I feel.
01:45Yeah.
01:46And here.
01:47A fella said, why don't you just try to put some goats on horses?
01:49You know, so we put a pad underneath the horse's rug there.
01:59Well, fair dinkum.
02:01So, Tom, obviously, it's pretty self-explanatory,
02:05but what have we got right here?
02:06Yeah, well, the fella said wanting to try to get goats on horses.
02:09So we put a pad under there so the goat doesn't hurt the horse.
02:12And I thought it was a gimmick, but then if you're out mustering cattle
02:14and you've got to pick up a baby calf that can't walk the distance
02:17back to the yard, you've got to jump off your horse, catch the calf,
02:21put it on your horse and carry it back to the yard
02:23so it can get a drink from its mother.
02:24And if your horse has never had a goat or a dog on its back,
02:27nine times out of ten, it's just going to buck you off.
02:29So you've got to desensitise the horse to be able to take that pressure,
02:32and then it becomes far more efficient out there on the workplace.
02:36Well, fair dinkum.
02:36I'd like to know where else you're going to see this on television
02:39around Australia.
02:40This is the Catherine Outback experience with Tom Curtin
02:43where we've just seen an amazing working dog demonstration.
02:46What exactly do you do from here if this was a live show?
02:51Well, we'd normally try to get the goats back off,
02:54but we might even, I don't know.
02:57Do you want to see if this horse, we've got Hannah here,
02:59do you want to see if we can give it a goat ride?
03:02Yeah.
03:02Oh, here we go.
03:03We haven't done this before.
03:04We haven't planned for this, but here we go.
03:06Now just pull up there for a second.
03:09Good.
03:10Okay.
03:10Then just go another few steps.
03:11We had the goat who was holding on for dear life.
03:15They've got incredible balance, these goats.
03:18There you go.
03:19Another couple of metres.
03:23Good.
03:23Dottie back, back.
03:25Dottie back, back.
03:27And there we go.
03:29Oh, we're going to have a double goat on the horse.
03:31Well, I'll tell you what, Tom, you've once again delivered to ABC again.
03:37Thank you so much for your time.
03:39Hey, obviously the golden guitar is coming up too.
03:42You're up for album of the year, traditional album of the year,
03:45and you've got one more live show left as well, mate.
03:48So hopefully another successful trip to Tamworth.
03:50Yeah, no, it's just great for it to be nominated up there
03:52with all the other big guns.
03:54But it's, yeah, very humbling.
03:56I'm not holding my breath, but I'm just soaking up the Tamworth experience.
03:59It's great to be out here and back to the festival again.
04:02So, yeah, we'll give it a crack.
04:04I'll tell you what, you never quite know what you're going to see
04:06at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
04:08The great thing is we've still got the long weekend to go.
04:10I hope you can check back in again.
