00:00Right now! Hello? Are you ready?
00:18Alright, settle down folks! Get ready! The show's about to stop!
00:23In DreamWorks Animation's film, Madagascar, a stellar lineup of talent brings life to the crazy animals
00:29of both the Central Park Zoo in New York City and the island of Madagascar.
00:34You must tell me, who the heck are you?
00:37I'm Alex, the Alex, and this is Gloria, Marty, and Melvin.
00:41Alex is, I guess, sort of a little bit full of himself. He's sort of the main attraction of the zoo.
00:46He's the king of the Central Park Zoo.
00:49Alex! The lion!
00:53The animators were very inspired by Ben's face, and what he does, even when he's upset,
00:58he does this scene where he's just, you know that he's not really mad, that he's just really caring and upset,
01:03and so you still love him.
01:05Hey, you hear that? Marty's fine.
01:06Oh, that's good to know.
01:07Because I was just wondering, uh...
01:09How can you do this to us, Marty? I thought we were your friends!
01:12At the beginning of the movie, I think he's really happy in this world. Marty's looking for some people.
01:17They're best friends, though, and they want different things, and I think that's sort of what the journey of the movie is,
01:23about their friendship and how these two very different animals end up being here for each other as friends.
01:30I wish I had to go...to the wild!
01:34Yeah, I play the zebra, Marty.
01:36That's a good one.
01:37I'm loving San Diego! This place is off the Chizang!
01:40So, it's Chris Rock, and he's born as a zebra.
01:43Marty is a glass-half-full kind of guy. He's not depressed about his life in the zoo.
01:49He has a great time there, but he just wonders if there might be something more out there.
01:54This isn't bad luck. This is good luck. Look around. There are no fences, no schedules. This place is beautiful!
02:02Baby, we were born to be here!
02:03Marty's a zebra that wants to get out of the zoo. He's a New Yorker. They're all New Yorkers.
02:08He's a little spoiled. He doesn't realize how good he has it.
02:11Oh, yeah! We are taking a walk on the wild side! Look out!
02:16Marty the zebra is this character that just loves life. Exuberant, smart, funny, interested in the world around him.
02:23And Chris Rock is perfect for that.
02:26Come on, Mama, hold you.
02:28Aw, they are so cute for a reason.
02:31Come on up!
02:32She's very maternal. She's definitely a take-control, I-got-it-I-can-handle-it type of woman.
02:40Alrighty, boys, fun's over. Type of hip-hop.
02:44Marty, look, you've got to be just a little bit more under...
02:47Don't you shush me!
02:49She's one of the strongest, toughest women I think I've ever met.
02:54Not to be pushed around. Knows what she wants out of life.
02:58And that's exactly who Gloria is, too.
03:00It's really possible to be a big creature like Gloria, but still be really sexy and powerful and strong.
03:07I just kind of want to snuggle up next to her and just hug on her and just roll all on her.
03:18Melvin, Melvin, Melvin! Wake up!
03:20Right!
03:21Let's go!
03:22Let's go!
03:24Let's go!
03:25Not for me! I'm calling in sick!
03:27What?
03:28I found a brown-another brown spot on my shoulder. See? Right there! You see?
03:33Melvin, you know what's all in your head?
03:36Well, I play Melvin the giraffe, and he's, you know, the tallest and the coolest of all the animals in the movie.
03:45What?
03:46No, he's, uh, he is. Not really. But he's the tallest.
03:51Nature! It's all over me!
03:53I can't see!
03:54I can't see!
03:56Now you can see.
03:58Oh! I can see!
03:59Some actors just blend themselves perfectly for animation. David Truman was one of those.
04:03Where, you know, you hear him. You don't have to look at him. You can just hear him and go,
04:07He'd be a perfect Melvin. He'd be a perfect hypochondriac.
04:10And he's sweet, and he's caring and wanted Melvin to be comic relief, as well as just someone really endearing.
04:16That room has 50 little things he can wash up in it. Look!
04:19Can you see that?
04:20Oh, please!
04:22These tongue tongues are very necessary in this film. There's a lot of tongue gags.
04:25Melvin rarely uses his hands. I mean, his tongue is...
04:31His tongue is very active.
04:35Hey, the code Skipper, I can't make it out. Those are great.
04:39Hey, Chris, we can move on to the next bit.
04:41My name is Chris Miller, and on Shrek 1 and 2, I had the opportunity to play the Magic Mirror.
04:46And in Madagascar, I play a penguin named Kowalski.
04:50Kowalski's a bit of a scout. He assists in digging tunnels, breaking down codes, and anything he can do for his captain and the rest of his crew.
04:59The voice of the lead penguin is Tom McGrath, who is also directing the film. He plays the Skipper.
05:04The Skipper's voice was just, I think, from pitching the boards of the penguins. He'd just bark orders.
05:11Rico! Progress report! Status!
05:14And I had done Scratch, um, and pitched for so long with this character. We just got used to the voice.
05:20You hire Mammal!
05:21Huh?
05:22Can you read?
05:24The Skipper's trying to be a bit of Robert Stack, because initially he was the inspiration.
05:28All right, let me...
05:31Hey, shut him up!
05:32Trying to be a little bit charleston in a way, you know.
05:35I'd like to kiss you, but I'd like to be a little bit suave to kind of compliment the, the parking.
05:41You, quadruped!
05:42You know, speaking the English?
05:44And it just became a matter for me, speech-wise, of just over-articulating every single thing I say.
05:50Go!
05:51Shh!
05:52Shh!
05:53We're hiding.
05:54Go ahead, never mind.
05:55Including me.
05:56Who's making that noise?
05:57Oh, it's a good thing.
05:58We've got a great cast of lemurs on the island of Madagascar.
06:02Go!
06:03Sacha Baron Cohen plays the voice of Julian the King.
06:06And this guy is kind of dumb as a post, but, uh, full of himself.
06:11He thinks he's the greatest leader.
06:13Wait.
06:14I have a plan!
06:15Presenting your royal highness, the illustrious blah-la-blah, etc, etc.
06:20Hooray!
06:21Let's go!
06:22I play Maurice, who has been the assistant to the self-proclaimed king.
06:25I, I, I, I kind of, taking on this job.
06:29I feel like I'm a lot smarter than this guy.
06:31Oh!
06:32I'm telling you, that dude just gives me the e-be-de-be-dees!
06:35How can you have the e-be-de-be-dees for Miss Daleks?
06:38Look at him!
06:39He's so cute!
06:40Lemurs are so incredible.
06:42They're nocturnal animals.
06:44Huge ears in the eye.
06:45I really like the whole fur because, you know, the tail, you can whip that around.
06:49Sometimes when I get cold, I whip it around me.
06:52I whip it on top, do a donkey and thing with it.
06:55There's a number of things that you can do with the tail of that fuzzy magnet.
07:01What are you?
07:02What are you?
07:03In the movie, I play Mort, who is one of the lemurs.
07:08He's in charge of the cute department for the movie because he's just a ball of cute.
07:13I just want to dunk him in my car.
07:16I think there's some sort of scientific-mathematic ratio of big eyes to small furry head.
07:23And his eyes are about, I'd say, 60% of his head.
07:27I like them first.
07:28Before I even met him, I liked him.
07:30Yes, yes.
07:31You hate them compared to how much I shut up persona.
07:35Exactly.
07:36Oy vey.
07:37Oy vey.
07:38Oy vey.
07:39Oy vey, everybody.
07:41When these guys came on board, Jayden and Chris and Dave and the rest of the folks,
07:46you know, they take it to a whole new level.
07:48A place that you never even expected or anticipated.
07:52Lady, what is wrong with you?
07:55And that's part of the joy of doing this kind of work and working with that kind of really star town.
