00:00National championships and the Miami Hurricanes, boy, in the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s,
00:06synonymous with the sport of college football.
00:08Over the past 20 years, not synonymous with the sport, but tonight, back to the future we go.
00:14The Miami Hurricanes are in the national championship game.
00:16Are they playing Oklahoma? Are they going to play Nebraska?
00:19Is it Notre Dame on the other side? Is it Ohio State? No, it's Indiana.
00:23And Indiana is a heavy favorite tonight.
00:25Now, Joe, we've seen eight-and-a-halves creep back to seven-and-a-halves in a total now of 47-and-a-half.
00:30We've waited a long time for this game. It's here tonight.
00:33Give us a spread line for the national championship.
00:36Well, it's simple, Donnie, right?
00:37I mean, we saw that this was as high as nine last week,
00:41and we had told you that it was all public money on Indiana,
00:46that there really wasn't a ton of sharp money coming in yet.
00:50The pros weren't running to the window to back Indiana.
00:53They were sitting back and waiting to see just how far this line would go,
00:58and it got up as high as nine.
01:00Even one book had a nine-and-a-half at one point, Donnie,
01:04but that all changed over the last 24 to 36 hours
01:08because then we started to see the Miami money finally come in,
01:13and now we're down to seven-and-a-half.
01:15And if we're being honest, Donnie,
01:16it wouldn't shock me if this thing closes seven before kick here tonight.
01:21So we're finally starting to see the Miami backers go to the window,
01:26and that's where we're at now.
01:27And the total, pretty much the same, though, 47, 47-and-a-half.
01:32Not a whole lot, but I do think it's correlated, right?
01:35If you like Miami, you probably like the under in this one.
01:38Probably so.
01:39And also, as Joe pointed out, waking up in South Florida,
01:42it's going to be around 55 degrees midway through that game tonight,
01:45so we'll see how that plays into effect.
01:47And by the way, that is perfect football weather.
01:49But for Miami, just a little bit on the cool side tonight,
01:52something to keep an eye on.
01:54It's title time, people.
01:56The University of Miami Hurricanes at home at Hard Rock
02:00as an underdog to the Indiana Hoosiers.
02:03And by the way, Joe, when you look back in the past,
02:05in those games in the 80s and 90s where Miami was home,
02:07a lot of those games, they were the underdogs to Nebraska
02:09and also Oklahoma despite coming away with victories here.
02:12But usually, three points, four points, somewhere in that range.
02:16We're seeing most outlets show in this game, seven-and-a-half.
02:18And by the way, DraftKings this morning at 8.07 a.m.,
02:21they went back to eight-and-a-half points as a favorite towards Indiana.
02:25If I look at the ticket counts here,
02:26roughly only three out of every ten tickets coming in towards the Miami Hurricanes
02:30and a total listed at 47-and-a-half.
02:33Miami's a good football team,
02:35but apparently Indiana hasn't had any struggles this year at Penn State
02:39and against Ohio State.
02:40They should easily walk away with a victory in the national championship game
02:44on Miami's home field.
02:46Am I getting that right, Joe?
02:48Well, the way they're betting it and have been betting it, Donnie,
02:52you would think they already know what the outcome of the game is.
02:55And Miami shouldn't even bother showing up, right?
02:57I mean, why bother?
03:00Indiana's rolled Alabama.
03:02Well, listen, I can make the argument Alabama shouldn't have been in the playoff,
03:06number one, right?
03:08Oh, they beat Oregon.
03:09You got to be kidding me.
03:11Oregon might have been one of the most overhyped teams
03:13that we have seen in a very, very long time.
03:17Plus, they had already seen them once.
03:18They understand.
03:19In fact, the only situation in which both of these teams have a common opponent
03:24was Ohio State, Donnie.
03:27And correct me if I'm wrong here,
03:29Indiana struggled big time with Ohio State.
03:32You know who didn't?
03:33Miami.
03:34So, I don't know what we think, and this is all, you know,
03:38maybe they are the greatest team ever to be assembled in college football.
03:42But, boy, oh, boy, the idea that Miami's just going to lay down
03:46and they're going to get run over.
03:47When they haven't gotten run over,
03:49I can't remember the last time Miami got run over by anybody, Donnie.
03:53Forget about this year.
03:55Go years back.
03:56So, yeah, I'm not sure Indiana is that team that's going to do it either.
04:00You ever see Denzel Washington, the equalizer here?
04:03Like, you got to have somebody that's going to even the playing field.
04:04Miami has two equalizers, each one at defensive end.
04:08Like, when you take a look at crushing the pocket with Bain
04:10and you're saying, you know what, I can get after the quarterback,
04:13Mesdor on the other side, those could be the equalizers
04:15because you are going to have to equalize maybe the best quarterback
04:17in college football, won the Heisman Trophy, Fernando Mendoza.
04:20He's only, and I say only, 223.5 is his number.
04:23Carson Beck is 199.5.
04:26You need to get to the quarterback if you want a chance at victory
04:29for the Miami Hurricanes.
04:30If you look at both of these quarterbacks, Joe,
04:32and their price points at 223.5 for Mendoza and Beck at 199.5,
04:36who are you taking in this game here,
04:38and what sort of style do you see out of these quarterbacks?
04:41Well, I'll tell you what I think we're going to get is I think the defenses
04:45are going to have some success, especially early in this game, Donnie,
04:51because, again, all due respect here, Texas Tech offensively was overblown.
04:58Oregon's defense was not as good as people thought.
05:02Miami's defense is, and Miami's defense has proven it on the road
05:06multiple times during this postseason here
05:09against very good and potent offenses.
05:12So the one thing we know for sure is Miami's defense is going to be there,
05:16Indiana's defense is going to be there, two experienced quarterbacks under center.
05:22I think this game is going to start very slowly, Donnie,
05:26and I think the points, they might be coming in the second half here.
05:30So don't be shocked if we're scratching our head
05:33and it's kind of a rock fight early.
05:35But I think this game is going to be decided in the second half.
05:39Some of the adjustments, I think that's what's going to decide this game.
05:43But to me, if this game goes in maybe 7-7, Donnie, or 10-10,
05:48something like that into the half, it would not shock me.
05:51You know, the path to victory in college football, Joe,
05:53used to be like, you know what, have an undefeated regular season,
05:55win your conference championship game.
05:57Then you've got to win one game, which is a bowl game,
05:58which is probably going to be the BCS and or the college football playoff,
06:01which then expanded to two games.
06:03Now it's much more.
06:04Like Miami winning this championship from going for,
06:06well, we don't know if they should be in over Notre Dame,
06:08to going to A&M and winning that football game,
06:11then taking on Ohio State and winning that football game
06:14after Ohio State had a bye,
06:15then taking on Ole Miss, another SEC team, and winning that game,
06:18and then taking on the immovable object,
06:20which is Indiana unbeaten in that final.
06:22That would be as impressive as a run as you could possibly get here.
06:25But if we are looking at some of those players
06:27that you need to step up in this game, Malachi Toney,
06:30let's sit at 61.5 receiving yards.
06:32On the opposite side, Elijah Sherratt's been a very good wide receiver
06:35for the Hoosiers, 56.5.
06:37Not a lot of numbers here where it's like, oh, NFL game,
06:40you got, you know, JSN at 90 or Pukunuku at 98 here.
06:43Manageable numbers here.
06:45There is going to be offense.
06:46And also, Joe, winds aren't expected to be high.
06:48Now we don't know if there's a canopy on hard rock,
06:50but some of those winds can creep in.
06:51Only 10 miles per hour.
06:52It's not one of those games that's going to be played, Joe,
06:54on 1 o'clock in mid-September.
06:55It's like, man, everybody's cramping up.
06:5860-degree temperatures of kickoff leaking into the 50s
07:00by the time we get to the end of the game,
07:02and no precipitation in the forecast,
07:04which is always usually a big deal in Miami.
07:06This is as clean slate as you're going to get
07:08for both of these teams tonight, Joe.
07:11Yeah, no excuses.
07:12There's not going to be any excuses here tonight
07:14with outside forces.
07:16Mother nature is not going to play a role.
07:18Nothing along those lines.
07:19And listen, I mean, just remember, yes,
07:22Indiana may very well be the better team,
07:26not by much,
07:26but the better team doesn't always win, Donnie,
07:30and we need to remember that.
07:32Still got to go out and get it done here.
07:34So we certainly know that, as far as I'm concerned,
07:37the best defense Indiana will have seen
07:39is about to be tonight here in Miami's own backyard.
07:44So also keep this in mind, too.
07:47Because Miami is considered the road team here,
07:50ironically enough, Donnie,
07:52they're in their own locker rooms.
07:54They're in their same locker rooms
07:56because it happens to be on the road side
07:57that they use that locker room.
07:59So that's exactly where they'll be.
08:01They'll be in their own locker room
08:03feeling very comfortable here today
08:05as they get ready for the national championship game.
08:09Touchdown prop odds here.
08:10You saw Carson Beck 1-1 in to clinch a game.
08:13He's Carson Beck tonight if he does it again.
08:14Nine to one price point,
08:16but the favorites in the club has only one guy, Joe,
08:18minus money, and that's Elijah Sherrod at minus 115.
08:20Every other player in this football game is plus money.
08:23Think a little Mark Fletcher action, Malachi Tony,
08:26or just roll with Roman Hemby and say
08:27he's going to plow one in.
08:28Give me him at plus 115.
08:29Well, listen, it's all those guys are legit, right?
08:34They all have a chance of getting into the end zone,
08:37but you got to ask yourself again,
08:39how many points are we really getting here?
08:41Because the prevailing thought in the market is the under.
08:45So we're getting Indiana and the under
08:47because they don't think Miami's offense
08:49can score enough here.
08:51So yeah, I think Miami's offense
08:53is not going to have a problem getting in the end zone.
08:57I think Fletcher's a good call.
08:58And I think Tony is a good call too, as well.
09:01Both those guys will absolutely be a part
09:04of whether or not the Hurricanes win this game.
09:08Royal Caribbean, based out of Miami,
09:10as most of the cruise ships are down there,
09:12they're cheering on for the Canes.
09:13They put a special message out from Royal Caribbean
09:15saying, you know what?
09:16It's like this boat up.
09:17Go Canes here.
09:18Why not Indiana?
09:19They're based in Miami, people.
09:21That's why.
09:21Come on.
09:22Of course it is.
09:23Yeah.
09:23The guy who owns Carnival, same guy that owns the Miami Heat.
09:27You think he's going to promote Indiana?
09:29Even though most of the people that take those cruises
09:32are from Indiana.
09:33But that's neither here nor there.
09:35It makes sense that he's based in Miami
09:37and that is exactly who he is going to promote there
09:40in his own backyard.
09:42Professional football in college.
09:43How do we know?
09:44We'll take a look at this graphic here.
09:45Indiana won 15 total games in four seasons under,
09:48or pre-Signetti.
09:49Now that they have Signetti,
09:50they won 15 games just this year alone, man.
09:54We're almost to that 16th and 17th game, Joe.
09:56Come on now.
09:57Pro football in college.
09:59I got to go wrong.
10:0016 and 0 would be quite the story here, Donnie,
10:04especially with that logo on the side of their helmet here.
10:07But again, you know, the best team doesn't always win.
10:11So let's see how this, you know,
10:13roll it out there, Miami anyway.
10:15Just show up.
10:16And I know the market doesn't think you should show up,
10:19but go ahead and roll it out there.
10:20Let's see how it rolls.
10:21By the way, I hated Kurt Signetti last year.
10:23I love him this year.
10:24And how about this?
10:24The Wall Street Journal tweeted out,
10:26the Hoosiers coach transformed one of college football's
10:28worst programs into a national title contender.
10:30But day after day, his burrito bowl stays exactly the same.
10:34I got respect for that.
10:35And by the way, Chipotle, love the burrito.
10:37Got to get the double wrap here.
10:39Also the bowl, fantastic with chips.
10:40I love myself some Chipotle.
10:42And so does Kurt Signetti.
10:45Listen, if it ain't broke, Donnie, right?
10:47We ain't fixing it.
10:49That's the bottom line here.
10:50So listen, the whole world is against Miami.
10:53They are home in their own backyard.
10:56Let's see how this works out here tonight.
10:58Let me get that burrito bowl.
11:00I am a big fan.
11:01Like I do like the burrito bowl,
11:02but I prefer the burrito itself.
11:03I always got to get the chips and guac on the side.
11:05Now Chipotle does make some pretty good guac and chips.
11:08I've had better at the authentic places,
11:09but I'll tell you right now,
11:10Chipotle's burrito goes toe to toe
11:12with a lot of these authentic places, man.
11:14Don't get it twisted.
11:16It's early night.
11:24National championship game tonight, Joe.
11:26You got hockey.
11:27You got college basketball.
11:27You got the NBA on MLK Day.
11:29Where are we going?
11:32Yeah, I'm going to go to the national championship game tonight, Donnie,
11:35and I'm going to keep it simple here
11:37because under the bright lights, national championship,
11:41I feel like the defenses are going to dominate this game early,
11:45and I like the unders early in this game.
11:49First half total, 23 and a half.
11:52Listen, we know Miami is going to want to grind this game out, right?
11:55Miami is going to want to make sure that they can run the ball,
11:59let the offensive line do their thing.
12:02Same thing with Indiana here,
12:04and I think when it's all said and done,
12:06the fireworks likely come in the second half, not the first.
12:10So I'll take the under 24 and a half, 23 and a half in this one here tonight.
12:15All right.
