00:00Hello. Thank you for watching today.
00:17Today's topic is the Microlino, a two-seater electric car.
00:22Due to environmental issues, electric vehicles are predicted to become mainstream in the future, and this time we will introduce the ultimate environmentally friendly electric vehicle.
00:38Its name is Swiss-born Microlino.
00:42The car is a two-seater ultra-compact vehicle manufactured by Swiss micromobility vehicle company.
00:50And its main feature is that you get in and out of the car from the front.
00:57In other words, the car has a front door, and the door opens and closes as well.
01:05Such microcars have been sold as gasoline-powered vehicles in the past.
01:11One of the most famous microcars is the British Bug.
01:18When it was first released in the 1970s, it was not called a microcar, but was instead marketed as a bubble car, reminiscent of its bubble-like canopy.
01:30This Bug was a three-wheeled vehicle, not a four-wheeled one, equipped with a 700cc engine and capable of a top speed of an astounding 120km/h.
01:43It was also a unique car, as getting in and out required lifting up the entire top of the vehicle.
01:49In fact, microcars are also sold in Japan by companies such as Mioka Motors and Toyota.
01:58However, although they did not require vehicle inspections, they had some problems, such as being a single-seater, being expensive, not being suitable for long distances, not being able to carry much luggage, and not having air conditioning, and so at present they have not become very popular.
02:13The Microlino was unveiled at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show and is scheduled to be put into practical use in 2020.
02:26And we have already received over 15,000 orders from all over the world.
02:33Improvements made since the Tokyo Motor Show include improved visibility, increased head clearance, larger side windows, and a slightly higher overall height.
02:48In addition, the rear of the vehicle features a single, thin, horizontal LED combination lamp, further enhancing the design.
02:58The only front door now opens and closes electrically, and a large LCD panel is installed above the steering post.
03:09The target audience for Microlino is environmentally conscious people living in urban areas.
03:20The Microlino is super small, measuring just 1.5 metres wide, 2.4 metres long and 1.4 metres high.
03:30In other words, urban areas, especially city streets, tend to have many narrow roads, making this an area where these ultra-compact cars are most useful when it comes to driving and parking.
03:45It also has a top speed of 90 km and can travel 120 km on a single charge, so it should be no problem for traveling within urban areas.
03:56And one of the biggest advantages of the Microlino is that it can be charged using household power without having to go to a dedicated charging point.
04:09In Europe, if you use a standard household power outlet (220V), charging will be complete in about four hours.
04:18Of course, you can also use dedicated charging points, in which case the battery will be fully charged in just one hour.
04:28However, there are some disadvantages to selling in Japan.
04:32For one, the Microlino does not come equipped with air conditioning.
04:37This is because in Europe, where the summer is dry and hot, it was thought that air conditioning was not necessary if the windows on both sides and the ceiling were opened.
04:49The car is also equipped with a winter heater, but in Japan's cold climate it consumes a considerable amount of electricity, which is thought to affect driving performance.
05:03Even taking into account these advantages and disadvantages, the price of around 1.5 million yen in Japanese yen is still attractive.
05:14Of course, this price does not take into account government subsidies, so it is likely to be lower than this price.
05:23And when you take into account the recent rise in gasoline prices, running costs can be kept quite low, at just a few hundred yen per charge.
05:37In addition, if the micromobility vehicles are to be expanded globally, they will not be exported from Europe to other regions, but will instead be manufactured in local factories.
05:50I'm looking forward to it.
05:52Well, that's all for this time.
05:56See you again.
05:58Goodbye.
05:59Thank you for watching.
