00:46carried out by groups supported by the United States and Israel.
00:54Hello and welcome to From the South. I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
01:00We begin with the news.
01:15On Thursday in Cuba, a high level commission led by members of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party,
01:21received at the José Martí International Airport in Havana the remains of the 32 Cuban combatants who were killed in the recent U.S. attacks on Venezuela.
01:31The remains were transported along Rancho Boyeros Avenue to the headquarters of the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces.
01:38During the procession, a representation of the Cuban people gathered on both sides of the road to pay homage to the 32 who fell in the defense of the Venezuelan sovereignty.
01:48In this sense, hours before the start of the public tribute, the Cuban military authorities announced as a fitting and well-deserved tribute that the 32 martyred combatants would be posthumously promoted in military rank.
02:04From the very first moment, and with the clarity that history demands, we affirm that we do not accept them with resignation, but with deep pride and eternal commitment.
02:28Because we know, and the people of Cuba have learned in the hardest times, that death does not defeat those who fall with a rifle in their hands defending a just cause.
02:48They do not return to us as shadows. On the contrary, they are new light to strengthen, inspire and come in us.
02:57They return covered by the flag, and that flag does not represent an accent. It can secret its eternal presence.
03:05At the reception for the remains, the Minister of the Interior of Cuba, General Låzaro Alberto Álvarez Casas, shared the grief of the Cuban people at the loss of their combatant brothers.
03:19Likewise, one of the heroes of the Republic of Cuba, Gerardo HernĂĄndez Nordelo, expressed that it's a very painful moment for the homeland, and that the Cuban soldiers did everything they could to defend President NicolĂĄs Maduro until the very end.
03:47It's truly painful to see these images as the family is suffering. There is a child that is barely a month old that never met her father and is seeing him now for the first time. His face is truly painful.
04:04We also think that it's true. We also think that it's a historic moment for the homeland, and it's a reason for pride and to have this opportunity to pay homage to the combatants, which we must say is they are not anti-air combatants or anything like this.
04:20They were fulfilling a specific mission, and the only thing that they had in their hands were light weaponry, and they faced an enemy that even that enemy had to recognize that they fought until the last of their ammunition.
04:34And I believe that details have been known now, and there's still much more to be known about the heroism of these young men and in the way that they defended their mission and the integrity of President Maduro until the last moment.
04:50In this regard, the hero of the republic, Fernando GonzĂĄlez-George, expressed that the Cuban soldiers lost their lives honorably, fulfilling their duty and defending the Cuban revolution.
05:04In this regard, the young forces, and we shared the pain of the family members of the 32 combatants, some moment of sadness, painful for our people, for their families, but we must also say that they failed fulfilling their task with dignity, with honor,
05:34in an unequal combat, but they knew with firmness, with firmness, the mission that they were fulfilling, and we must say that it's painful, it's saddening, but also it expresses the message of firmness, of courage, of valor, of dignity of all Cubans, not only in the fulfillment in their international task, but because we can also say that they failed for us, they failed
06:03transmitting that message of firmness and the decision of commitment of our people to defend their revolution.
06:10Also, the network of intellectuals, artists, and social movements in defense of humanity paid tribute to the 32 Cuban combatants killed in the imperialist attack perpetrated by the United States against Venezuela.
06:24In a statement, the global movement expressed, the network of intellectuals, artists, and social movements in defense of humanity, now in its 20th year of existence, is today experiencing one of its most painful movements and moments, as it accompanies with respect and sorrow the families and the Cuban people in the grief that overwhelms them today, as they receive the 32 honorable soldiers,
06:52who gave their lives in combat in defense of the 70 of Venezuela, who gave their lives in combat in defense of the 70 of Venezuela, and all of America, who together with the Venezuelan army units, faced the brutal imperialist attack that resulted in the kidnapping of President NicolĂĄs Maduro, First Lady Celia Flores.
07:10In this regard, the document stated, today we mourn together with you, beloved Cuban people, for your children who fell in the line of duty, martyrs who defended freedom and dignity in the face of imperial aggression in Venezuela.
07:25Their sacrifice will not be forgotten. Their memory becomes a banner of unity, resilience, and brotherhood.
07:32Also, the Cuban foreign ministry denounced the opportunistic use and political manipulation by the United States government regarding the sending of humanitarian aid after Hurricane Melissa.
07:48Through digital platforms, the foreign ministry highlighted 77 days have passed.
07:55On January 14th, the State Department of that country publicly announced that part of the aid would arrive in the country.
08:02At no time has there been any official communication from the US government to the government of Cuba to confirm such a shipment.
08:11It was also specified that as a matter of principle, Cuba does not oppose assistance from governments or organizations provided that it benefits the people and that the needs of the victims are not used for political gain under the guise of a humanitarian gesture.
08:28The statement concludes, material assistance from the United States through this channel will obviously be directed to the victims and affected communities, although it represents a fraction of the efforts of the Cuban people and government and of the aid received from various parts of the world, including US organizations not associated with the government.
08:49And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember, you can join us on Tik Tok at Telesur English, where you'll find news in different formats, news updates and much more.

09:03Welcome back to From the South. We go now to Venezuela. Acting President Delsi Rodriguez delivered her annual message to the nation before the National Assembly.
09:24The act was carried out in strict compliance with Article 237 of the Constitution, which establishes that the executive must provide a detailed account of the political, economic and administrative aspects of the management carried out during the previous year.
09:42The report takes on a historical character following the kidnapping of President NicolĂĄs Maduro Moros and First Lady Celia Flores on January 3rd by the United States government.
09:54The legislative session is backed by a massive rally of social sectors and workers groups mobilized in the vicinity of the federal palace to express their support for the actions of the acting president and demand the immediate release of their leaders, ratifying their commitment to national sovereignty.
10:11The political cover and I say it, it is not important. We have to go together as Venezuelans men and women to defend the sovereignty, the independence, the territorial integrity and to defend the
10:41and also our dignity and our honor.
10:45And in this context, the acting president of Venezuela, Delsi Rodriguez recalled the United States aggression against the nation, which cast a strain on relations between the two countries.
10:55Contradiction. There is a strain in our relationships when they crossed the red line and they attacked and assaulted and they killed and they invaded and they kidnapped President Maduro and First Lady.
11:10Contradiction. It is a strain in the relationship between the U.S. and Venezuela. And we said that that strain and we made the oath facing our heroes. We said that we were going to do it diplomatically face to face as BolĂvar taught us.
11:30Contradiction. And in Venezuela as well, teachers marched to celebrate their day and demand the release of President NicolĂĄs Maduro and his wife, Celia Flores.
11:50Contradiction. The demonstration started from the Universidad Avenue in Caracas and ended at the San Francisco corner where a stage awaited them from which a call for peace was made.
12:03During the march, teachers emphasized their commitment to education, humanity, culture and political stability.
12:09This action joined other popular protests that have taken place in the country and around the world 13 days after the kidnapping of President NicolĂĄs Maduro and his wife,
12:19Celia Flores. Also mobilization continued in Venezuela on Wednesday to demand the release of President NicolĂĄs Maduro and First Lady Celia Flores who were kidnapped by the U.S. military on January 3rd.
12:37The workers of the Bolivarian nation took to the streets of Caracas to express their support for the Venezuelan government and to reject the Trump administration's attacks.
12:46The demonstrators also reiterated their support for the presidential couple held hostage in the United States and for Acting President Delci Rodriguez who assumed the task of continuing the Bolivarian revolutionary project.
13:00The demonstrations in defense and sovereignty of the homeland have been going on across the Venezuelan territory for 12 consecutive days.
13:08And in a meeting with leaders of political movements, Venezuelan congressman NicolĂĄs Maduro Guerra assured that the progress of Venezuela's development constitutes a commitment to the kidnapped head of state NicolĂĄs Maduro Moros and First Lady Celia Flores.
