00:00Hello, I'm Louise Blaine, Creative Lead here at Blumhouse Games, and I'm back with
00:15the second episode in our Crisole Theatre of Idols setting the stage series. If you
00:20missed the first video, you can click the link on screen now to find out more about
00:24the origins and inspirations behind the cursed island of Tormentosa. This time though, I'm
00:29diving deeper into the enemies, just itching to meet Gabriel on his journey. So, reload
00:36that spiked pistol and let's head into the store.
00:42If you've seen any Crisole gameplay, chances are you'll recognise this lot. These lurching
00:48nightmares are known as the Astiados, which is Spanish for splinter. These idols are based
00:55on the traditional painted statuettes of Spanish religious iconography. Living firmly in uncanny
01:01valley territory, the various kinds of Astiados in Crisole also replicate the suffering of
01:07their real-life counterparts, often crying or agonisingly tortured. And one big difference
01:13from other games is that headshots, well, they don't make a single bit of difference in Tormentosa.
01:20Shoot off the head, torso or even legs and the Astiados will continue in their relentless pursuit.
01:26Add in a suite of different ways to skewer and flambe Gabriel, and these are a dangerous
01:31force to be reckoned with. Yes, even the one that the team at Vermilla lovingly refer to
01:37as Mr. Moo.
01:39But the danger doesn't stop with the Astiados. The team knew they needed more unique creations,
01:49and realised that if the Astiados represented the wooden splinters of statues, they could
01:54look to other architectural staples for other enemies. Stone statues became tank-like juggernauts,
02:02oil paintings, slimy monstrosities, and the wax of giant church candles transformed into
02:08the Therios, the fluttering, diabolical, flaming cherubs of Gabriel's nightmares. It was a fun
02:15process for the team, with so much rich culture from Spain, to inspire the creation of a sea
02:21monstrosities.
02:26And finally, last but by no means least, we have Dolores, who is no mere enemy, but a key
02:33character in the lore of Cressol. As Gabriel's antagonist and endless pursuer, she is an intelligent
02:40and terrifying foe. Dolores herself is almost a huge version of a reliquary, or a container
02:48of holy relics, but with the corrupted remains still inside. And no, you can't take her down
02:55with mere bullets, even if they are blood powered. Stealth, and just plain running away, is your
03:01only option when faced with this gargantuan foe.
03:06So that's a quick behind-the-scenes look at the enemies of Tormentosa. Cressol Theatre
03:10of Idols has a demo on Steam now, and you'll be able to play on PC, PS5, and Xbox series
03:16in 2026. Don't forget to subscribe to Blumhouse Games to make sure you have all the latest news
