00:00or do you think there's a trend with the one and seven for bi-week teams?
00:04That's something we need to look at, you know, moving forward into next year
00:07as far as when you're looking to kind of get some action on those games,
00:10or is that just simply an idiosyncratic matchup situation?
00:14You know, it's a really good question, Bobby,
00:16because we only have a sample size of two years.
00:19We only have a sample size of eight games,
00:21but it's a pretty strong trend at this moment.
00:25Seven of the eight, the team that had the bi
00:27was not even just losing the football game,
00:30but either tied or trailing at the half.
00:33They have gotten off to very slow starts and unable to overcome.
00:37The only anomaly, and it's the greatest anomaly in sports at the moment,
00:40is Kurt Signetti and Indiana.
00:43It's the age-old debate that we have in basically every single postseason
00:47across every single sport, rest versus rust.
00:51Are you better for having a week off to recuperate,
00:53to get healthy with some of your key pieces
00:55and allow people the time they need to prepare?
00:58Or are you better in the cyclical and scheduled sports season
01:02that we all know, regardless of what the sport is,
01:05continuing and maintaining your routine to stay on top of everything?
01:09I guess in terms of the college football playoff in the 12-team era,
01:13you would want to continue to play to build up momentum
01:16in the most significant games of the year.
01:18I'm not sure if we are going to change it.
01:20We have seen so many changes to the college football playoff.
01:23I think the next change that we potentially see
01:26is a change to the number of teams in the field
01:29before we flip over what might happen with opening round buys and such.
01:34It's just a really interesting anomaly that we have seen at this moment.
01:38The teams that have earned that buy, and specifically this year,
01:41because we had Boise State and Arizona State as the three and four seeds a season ago,
01:45but specifically this year, to see it play out,
01:48where Ohio State was a nine-and-a-half-point favorite,
01:50Georgia, a touchdown favorite against Ole Miss,
01:52and both teams losing that football game outright.
01:55It was a little bit stunning.
01:57Yeah, stunning to say the least, and I think there is a lot to do with the layoff
02:02because you get out of your rhythm.
02:04How different would it be, even from a betting perspective,
02:07let's say we did go to 16 games,
02:09and now you're playing the first two rounds potentially at home.
02:12How does that change the landscape versus a neutral site like we had this last year?
02:16Yeah, big time, Slags.
02:18In college football and the pantheons of the stadiums that we play in each and every Saturday
02:22for three months, home field advantage is paramount,
02:25and I think that would continue to be a thing if we expanded
02:28and had multiple games in these home arenas.
02:31I think you could maybe lay off some of the idea of rest versus rust
02:35by granting the Buckeyes or the Bulldogs or any of those top four teams
02:40earning the opening round buy a home game as well,
02:43because the home field advantage then would get rid of or negate perhaps
02:48that extra week of rest in terms of the rust that would come from it.
02:52So for me, when you look at where things stand in the college football playoff,
02:57the changes that we are going to see, nobody really knows.
02:59It's not just a matter of what is best for the sport.
03:01Of course, we have never really done things in college football
03:04for the sanctity of the actual matchup and game on the football field.
03:08It's all about TV revenue.
03:10So however they figure that out with the parties that be ESPN and Fox Sports
03:14and everybody getting involved to own a part of the college football playoff,
03:18that will be the next iteration.
03:21I think we'll see what happens beyond this year,
03:23but it's a really good sense that you're getting from even some of the tastemakers
03:26in the sport, head coaches, big media personalities,
03:29kind of brokering and putting the sentiment out there
03:32that maybe the first two rounds should be played on campus
03:35and we should adjust the schedule ever so slightly
03:38so that our national championship game is not Monday, January 19th.
