00:01New pedestrian routes could be created through Pontefract Park as part of a major road upgrade.
00:07Wakefield Council is being asked to approve plans to use sections of land inside the town's largest urban park.
00:13The move would allow a £12 million improvement scheme on the A639 Park Road to go ahead.
00:20Work is expected to start later this year, subject to approvals.
00:24The project includes widening the road with the existing footpath becoming part of the carriageway.
00:29A new pedestrian route would instead run through the park and plans also include new crossing points and dedicated cycle lanes.
00:37The council says the scheme aims to improve journey times from the M62.
