00:00Nicola Torres was expecting to be evicted today but wasn't going to go quietly.
00:07No objections, no more fear!
00:09Foundation housing which manages the property isn't changing its mind though.
00:13There was over $6,000 for arrears, very poor property conditions and lack of engagement with the organisation.
00:20Mr Smith says they'd been asking for information to assess Ms Torres' eligibility since February but she hasn't provided it.
00:27They have been provided with where my current income is at and it was in a timely manner.
00:36The relationship then appeared to further sour.
00:39Our alert system for Ms Torres' tendencies has not to attend the property because of the number of times she's abused our people.
00:45There's only been one occasion that I've gotten quite upset with a staff member when she stood me up on a scheduled inspection.
00:52I took time from work, unpaid leave for the inspection and she didn't show.
00:58Foundation housing then took to emailing but Ms Torres says she was having problems with her emails as well as mental health challenges and wasn't able to work, leading to her falling behind on rent.
01:09Eviction is the last resort for foundation housing. So for a tenancy to be evicted, we've exhausted all avenues internally, we've worked as hard as we can with a tenant.
01:18They haven't offered me any tenancy support at all.
01:23While Ms Torres says she's repaid the debt.
01:26Once the tenancy has been terminated, the tenant has a certain amount of time to vacate the property as instructed by the court but the tenant is terminated.
01:33There are hundreds if not thousands of court orders being put out in the people in the public housing space and they're withdrawn because they've rectified the situation.
01:41Advocates I've been speaking to say cases like this are often complex but what they do show is the need for more independent support for social housing tenants so they can resolve issues much sooner.
01:53The state government funds a range of support services which people can access.
01:58That means little to Ms Torres who will soon be without a home.
02:02I think I might be packing up the caravan and just I guess going wherever we can go.
02:10Bye.
02:11Goodbye.
