00:00Episode 1: Goku's Great Adventure
00:09Hello. Thank you for watching today.
00:18Today's topic is Goku's Great Adventure.
00:21This film is about Goku's great adventure, a story that combines each character from the original with modern adaptations and gags, and features the monsters he encounters along the way, leading to some crazy slapstick comedy.
00:41Now, let's take a look at this work.
00:44Goku's Great Adventure
00:48Goku's Great Adventure was originally written by Osamu Tezuka and aired for a total of 39 episodes in 1967.
00:57The story begins with a rock on top of a volcano suddenly beginning to glow, and after a while, a monkey named Goku is born from the rock.
01:08After his birth, Goku gathers the surrounding monkeys, becomes their leader, and becomes a thief who attacks merchants' character squads to steal their supplies.
01:19Meanwhile, Goku hears from one of his subordinates that a wealthy king of a certain country has a large amount of gold and silver treasures. He wants to take on a king with an army rather than a group of merchants who are no match for him, and he immediately sets out to take over the country and its castle.
01:38Then, disguised as a traveling merchant, they travel to the king to sell their goods, but the greedy king takes the goods without paying for them, and then uses his soldiers to try to drive Goku and his friends away.
01:54However, Goku, enraged by this cowardly tactic, reveals his true identity, defeats the soldiers and corners the king, but the center of gravity, Hakotendouji, appears and uses tactics to capture Goku and imprison him in a prison.
02:11That night, Goku's grandson, Tatsuko, a tactical expert, disguised as a butterfly, happens to visit Goku's prison. Goku escapes from the prison and follows Tatsuko in order to learn tactics from her.
02:26He then arrives at a mansion hidden beneath a waterfall and meets Tatsuko's grandfather, Ryukai Sennin, but he refuses to teach him tactics and turns him away.
02:37However, he still doesn't give up, and after infiltrating the Akatsu room in the mansion, he pors over the scrolls of tactics and masters 72 different tactics in one night.
02:50After finishing reading it, when he tried to leave the basin, he took the strange stick that had been supporting the waterfall's water without permission and returned to the castle.
03:00Meanwhile, the King's subordinate monkeys are about to be turned into a monkey hotpot by order of the King, and an enraged Goku tries to capture the King, but Hakoten Doji appears again and tries to eliminate Goku with his tactics.
03:15Goku then fights back using the tactics he has just learned, but the difference in tactical level gradually becomes apparent and he finds himself at a disadvantage. However, he takes out a mysterious stick and uses it to defeat Hakotendouji, achieving a major comeback.
03:31After this, Goku reigns as king of the castle, but due to his tyrannical behavior, he is imprisoned in a rock as punishment by Buddha. After that, he meets Tripitaka and sets out on a long and arduous journey to India.
03:51Now, let me introduce the characters used.
03:54Son Goku is a violent male monkey born from the rocks of a volcano, and after his birth he gathers together the surrounding monkeys and becomes the leader of a band of thieves.
04:07By chance, he obtains 72 tactics and golden sword luck described in a scroll owned by Tatsuko's grandfather, Ryukai Sennin, and becomes a powerful warrior. However, he becomes overconfident in his own strength and goes on a rampage in the heavenly realm, which results in him being imprisoned in a rock by Buddha.
04:25After being freed through Tripitaka's service, he accompanies him on his journey to India, and throughout the journey he gradually comes to understand the difference between true strength and tyrannical behavior.
04:39Tripitaka Bosatsu is known as the Young Wanderer and is on a journey to India to retrieve religious texts so that people can live in peace.
04:50He has strong convictions and is kind and honest to everyone, but depending on the situation, his pure belief in justice can make him stubborn and headstrong, and he often reveals his immaturity by being deceived by others and getting into trouble.
05:09Bajie is a male pig who uses a rake-like farming tool called a Tendan as a weapon, and accompanies Tripitaka on his journey to serve.
05:20He is always hungry, and there are many scenes where he complains along the way, and he has a bad habit of losing control and grabbing food when he sees it.
05:30Although he is timid and weak, he is very curious and is quick to get into trouble and dig his own grave, always asking for help from Goku and Sanzo.
05:47Sagojo is a treasure hunter who always carries a large bag and a shovel and is always searching for treasure, and he accompanies Tripitaka on his journeys.
05:57Like a kappa, he is a thin man with a flat head and a long mustache who aims to make a fortune by deciphering the letters and drawings on a treasure map, but there is also a scene in the play where he is disappointed when he discovers the treasure of a drum and stone money, which would be worthless in modern society.
06:19Tatsuko is an original character in the anime, a girl dressed entirely in pink.
06:24With a Dragon Sage as his grandfather, he is able to use tactics freely, and although he is often seen competing with Goku, he always lends a hand and helps Goku when he is in trouble.
06:39However, when Goku gets out of control and gets mischievous, he punishes him by using a spell to tighten the noose around his head.
06:46Buddha is the founder of Buddhism, a born violent man who became the leader of a band of thieves. After learning tactics, Goku became even more uncontrollable, so he challenged him to a contest of strength and then imprisoned him in a rock on Mount Five Elements.
07:04Towards the end of the story, as Tripitaka Fengxian and his companions approached India, he disguised himself as an old traveller to test the results of their travels.
07:16Below are the monsters and yokai that we fought along the way.
07:21Minister Kankara was the man who secretly manipulated King Kankara and controlled the country. He teamed up with Minister Rai to create a state of rising sun, selling water to the people at high prices and making a killing.
07:38Sanzo Hosen sees through this plot and has Goku defeat the two ministers, bringing about peace.
07:45Sanzo Fengxian is a monster who hates beautiful things, and in the play he despises the beautiful village and ruins it by polluting it.
07:57Furthermore, after failing to kidnap and kill Sanzo Housen, he attacks and eats Goku and Sagojo.
08:07However, because the monster was raging inside his stomach, Goku was about to finish him off, but he was reassured by a lecture from Tripitaka Housen.
08:20Plankton is a mad scientist who plans to set the world on fire.
08:26Therefore, he uses a secret technique called Ma Xiang Xian to cause a huge explosion of the volcano, but the flames of the volcano are extinguished by Goku's familiar lightning.
08:39Plankton, enraged by this failure, uses his female subordinate Micron to make Yakai and Sanzo Housen fall in love with him and steal the hardware, but this attempt also fails due to Goku's efforts.
08:52King Kobukobu is a monster with many bumps on its head that lives in a mountain swamp.
09:01In addition to being able to freely use the large clear stream tower, he was able to control water in his stomach, overwhelming Goku.
09:11However, in the end, Goku's Onna Ibou destroys the box that King Kobu-Kobu was holding, causing him to return to his original form as a goldfish.
09:22The Yokai King is the symbol of evil and the controller of the Yokai Alliance, and he plots to turn the world into a place of darkness by covering it with evil.
09:33On the other hand, he feared that if Sanzo Housen arrived in India, the alliance of monsters would be destroyed by the power of Buddha, so he sent in a blind spot to attack and kill Sanzo Housen and his companions.
09:48A Great Yokai is a form that is formed when the six main Yokai of the Yokai Alliance combine to become the most powerful Yokai in history.
10:03After the fusion, Goku struggles as his tactics and attacks are completely ineffective, but with the help of Buddha, he and the Demon King manage to defeat them together.
10:14King Icicle is an ice monster with a castle in the winter mountains, characterized by its white body.
10:25Using a staff that emits a freezing ray, he freezes Goku and kidnaps Tripitaka Fengxian as a hostage.
10:32Afterwards, Goku, who is frozen in ice, suffers from a high fever, but he recovers with the medicinal herbs that Tatsuko has brought back, and is easily defeated by Goku showering him with fire, which is his weakness.
10:46The Golden and Silver Pavilions are monsters that eat village girls who are offered as sacrifices once a year on the night of the full moon in order to extend their lifespans.
10:57Upon hearing this cruel story, Goku and Hakkai try to defeat Kinkakuji and Ginkakuji, but instead they are sucked into the mysterious ice charcoal, Konro, and become trapped inside.
11:10They then try to gain 3,000 years of life by eating Tripitaka Housen, but are defeated by Goku, who has escaped from the Konro, and they end up being trapped inside the Konro.
11:23As an aside, I would like to say that Mushi Productions will start a pilot version of Son Goku based on the manga by Tezuka Osamu, "My Son Goku," which is based on Saiyuuki.
11:39Prior to this work, Takakaze Daio's Firewood was produced.
11:45Later, this work was produced as an anime with a bolder style, incorporating more modern-style gag characters.
11:54When the show first began, it achieved high ratings, with the February 18, 1967 episode, "Love Even the Garbage," recording a peak rating of 31.7%.
12:09In April, Golden Bat began airing in the same time slot, and the ratings dropped significantly.
12:17In an attempt to overcome this situation, changes were made to the show's direction, such as the Yokai Rengo series, but this did not resolve the questionable ratings, and it seems that the show was ultimately forced to end with episode 39 of Sancool.
12:34In addition, in 1990, a special edition anime, Goku's Introduction to Copyright, was produced, explaining copyright law.
12:46In addition, a DVD box set was released in 2008, but this DVD box set included the only episode that was not aired due to its extreme content,
12:59Counterfeit Money Makes the World Go Round is also included.
13:03Now, it's finally the final episode.
13:10Today the group continues their journey towards Tenjiku, but they don't know how much further they have to travel before they reach Tenjiku, and as they are overcome with intense fatigue, they recall memories of their journey so far.
13:25In the midst of all this, he finds an old man collapsed by the side of the road and helps him up. The old man tells him that he is heading to Tenjiku and asks to travel there with him.
13:40Then, Tripitaka accepts the old man's wish, takes the old man on his horse, and they continue their journey together. However, after walking for a while, they come across a road that forks in two.
13:55So when Tripitaka is unsure which path to take, the old man suggests that he choose the more difficult path, but Tripitaka ends up choosing the path that looks easier.
14:10After that, as they were making steady progress along the road, they suddenly came across a large group of people making a lot of noise. When they asked them why they were making so much noise, they were told that at the end of the road was the entrance to Tenjiku.
14:26So, Goku and his friends are overjoyed to hear this good news, but are disappointed when they learn that a high toll is required to pass through the entrance to Tenjiku.
14:41However, by using the secret savings of Hakkai and Sago Castle, they manage to avoid the financial hardship, and after passing through the entrance gate, they must walk down a long, dark path following the light of the torch.
14:54However, when they saw a ray of light in the distance, many people ran towards it, but the place turned into a cliff, and many people, including Goku and his friends, fell one after another into the prison at the bottom.
15:13After falling into the prison, the Hunt for Evil appeared, and before his eyes rose a golden tower built from melted toll gold.
15:26Also, when Goku hears that the people in the prison will be used as slaves for construction as part of the hunt for evil, he becomes enraged and destroys the prison and challenges it to a fight, but is easily captured.
15:41Later, just as Goku's execution was about to take place, the old man used tactics to free him, and the now free Goku began a deadly battle against the evil hunters at the Golden Tower.
15:57However, the gold in the tower could not withstand the fierce battle and began to collapse. As the evil hunter was about to be caught in the falling gold nuggets, he begged for his life, so they rescued him and banished him from the golden tower.
16:13Furthermore, he destroys the Golden Tower, a symbol of desire, with a stick, and converts the stolen gold into people.
16:24Later, as Tripitaka and his companions were once again traveling along the rugged road that would lead to India, the old man who had disappeared suddenly appeared before them, and with a dazzling light, he transformed into his true form as Buddha.
16:42Buddha then confesses that he was testing how Tripitaka, Goku, and the others would behave when they encountered hardships on their journey to India, and also explains that their destination, India, does not exist.
16:58Thinking that he had been deceived, Goku vents his anger at Buddha, who then shows them the path they have walked on their journey and tells them that he will continue to watch over them from heaven, as they realize that the journey to India was the one in which peace came to the people as they all worked together to wipe out the evildoers.
17:22The scene changes and the program ends with a scene showing Tripitaka and his companions smiling and singing as they embark on their kilometer-long journey.
17:37Now let's take a look at Goku and his friends in action.
