Sortie en 1970.  Synopsis : Buckskin, une petite ville du Far West à l'écart de tout, est mise à sac par une bande de hors-la-loi dirigée par Remy et Marquette. Après leur forfait, les bandits prennent la route du Mexique, pensant y trouver l'impunité. Pour cela, ils doivent traverser le Rio Grande en empruntant un bac, piloté par l'intègre Travis. Ils ne peuvent se passer de ses compétences : Travis est irremplaçable et il le sait. Ayant flairé leurs intentions, le passeur a le temps d'évacuer tous les habitants de Lonely Dell, la ville voisine, pour éviter qu'ils ne deviennent à leur tour victimes des bandits. Sur l'autre rive, il attend Remy et Marquette et leur refuse la traversée, avec un calme qui n'est qu'apparent....
