00:00After what has been a relatively quiet start to Boxing Day here in Melbourne, millions of Australians have shown out for what has been tipped as a record-breaking amount of sales for Boxing Day this year.
00:15$1.6 billion has been forecast to be spent across Australia on Boxing Day sales, which is up by 4.3% from last year. And while we're seeing less shoppers physically in person, shoppers are still turning to online sales, researching their sales before they come in and knock off their shopping.
00:35Now, we know that $476 million is being spent on household goods, as well as $216 million in clothing and footwear and other accessories. We've heard technology is among the big sellers here at Melbourne Central, as well as makeup brands. We spoke to a few customers a little earlier on. Here's what they had to say.
00:56Got here before 6 o'clock in the morning and I'm here on a goal to buy a bed and just have a really good time looking at the sales.
01:08To be honest, I haven't came from last few years because of the kids, COVID and all that. So, yeah, normally I used to come here on 5 o'clock in the morning because normally there used to be a queue outside and all that. But this year it's a little bit quiet. So hopefully the people will come up later on.
01:22You know how you see on the TV, people are charging through. Well, I haven't quite seen that yet, but I'm sure it's to come.
01:28So while Australians are continuing to feel that increasing pinch of cost of living pressures, they're still showing up and showing out here at the Boxing Day sales in Melbourne.
