00:00Hello, we are transitioning from mild and wet to colder and drier, but not necessarily sunnier.
00:08In fact, for the next couple of days, there'll be a lot of low cloud around, especially tonight.
00:14Widespread low cloud dropping to cover many of the hills to give some spots of drizzle
00:19and some longer spells of rain towards the southwest, for example, northern parts of Scotland.
00:24But for many, it is a dry night, and under those cloudy skies, it's still going to be a relatively mild night,
00:32six or seven Celsius, first thing Tuesday.
00:35Tuesday gets off, though, to a grotty start. Not much brightness out there.
00:39If I had to pick, there would be some parts of western England, west Wales, northwest Scotland,
00:44where we're likely to see some cloud breaks, some brighter skies coming along,
00:48but extensive low cloud affecting many other places.
00:51And apart from some showery rain initially in the southwest, which tends to peter out later,
00:56and some more prolonged rain developing in the north of Scotland,
01:01it's a dry afternoon for much of the UK.
01:04It's going to feel colder, though.
01:06These are the temperatures we're expecting, the maximum temperatures on Tuesday,
01:10so seven or eight Celsius towards the east.
01:13But when you add on the strengthening easterly wind, feeling more like two or three Celsius,
01:19the feels like temperatures lower towards the south and east because of the stronger winds.
01:25And that easterly wind, a key aspect of our weather during the rest of the week, effectively.
01:30Yeah, we start off Christmas Eve with some outbreaks of mostly light rain across northern Scotland.
01:35That tends to sink south and sit over the Grampians for much of the day then.
01:40And then we've got some clear spells in the northwest of Scotland, perhaps the odd clear spell further south.
01:45But again, a lot of cloud about first thing Christmas Eve, so mostly frost-free.
01:51But the wind's going to feel colder.
01:54That wind coming from the east and picking up during Christmas Eve.
01:57It will help to lift the cloud and perhaps even introduce some breaks in the clouds.
02:03Some brighter weather coming along at times.
02:05I suspect the cloud will come and go, and most likely it's eastern parts that keep the largely cloudy skies
02:11with the best of any brightness towards the south, the west and the northwest.
02:16But, yeah, not quite as gloomy, I think, on Christmas Eve compared with the day before.
02:22Five or six Celsius at best, so those temperatures are gradually coming down.
02:27And as we go into the big day itself, high pressure is firmly in charge.
02:31That high pressure is sitting to the north of the UK, and you can see the tightly packed isobars there for Christmas Day itself.
02:38So the wind really picking up, and that's going to be one of the most notable aspects of the weather on Christmas Day.
02:44There's likely to be some breaks in the clouds, some sunshine coming and going, and it's, for virtually everyone, a dry day.
02:51The one exception, some showers towards the southwest could just push north enough to affect parts of Devon and Cornwall,
03:00perhaps even giving the odd sleety shower over Bodmin or Dartmoor.
03:04That's a low probability for most of the UK.
03:08It is a dry day on Christmas Day, but it's going to feel cold.
03:12These are the temperatures on the thermometers, four or five Celsius towards the east.
03:18And the north, these are the feels-like temperatures on Christmas Day, sub-zero for some southeastern parts of the country.
03:26So make sure you remember that cold wind on Christmas Day if you're heading out for a Christmas Day walk or Christmas Day swim in the sea.
03:36Other than that, it's looking like a beautiful day, dry with some bright spells.
