00:00Venezuela strongly rejects the U.S. government's threat to impose a naval blockade on the nation
00:12vowing to defend its rights to free trade, navigability, free development, sovereignty, and national independence.
00:21Honduran authorities report that this Wednesday members of the National Party, led by right-wing politician
00:26Nasir Asfura, attacked representatives of the Liberal Party and the Libre Party, in a new attempt to sabotage the vote count.
00:36A new shipment of Solidarity 8 from Venezuela arrived at the port of Santiago de Cuba to support recovery efforts in the east of the country after Hurricane Melisa.
00:50Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Dele Su Studios in Havana, Cuba. We begin with the news.
00:56The government of Venezuela condemned Donald Trump's military threat and vowed to defend its rights to free trade, navigability, free development, sovereignty, and national independence.
01:17Let's review some paragraphs from the statement issued by Caracas.
01:19I open quote.
01:20We call on the people of the United States and the peoples of the world to reject by all means this extractive threat, which once again reveals Donald Trump's true intentions to steal the wealth of the country that gave birth to the Army United, our Liberator South America, and that saw the birth of our Liberator Simon Bolivar.
01:40The people of Venezuela, in perfect union with the military and police, will know how to defend their historical rights and triumph through peaceful means.
01:49Minister Donald Trump used the following interventionist and colonialist expression, open quote,
01:53until all the oil, land, and other assets that they previously stole from us are returned to the United States.
02:00His true intention, which has been denounced by Venezuela and by the people of the United States in large demonstrations,
02:07was always to appropriate the oil, land, and minerals of the country for massive campaigns of lies and manipulation.
02:13Venezuela will never again be a colony of any empire or foreign power and will continue to follow together with its people the path of building prosperity and the unrestricted defense of our independence and sovereignty.
02:27The Venezuelan people, in perfect unity with the military and police, remain firm in the unrestricted protection of their territory, their wealth, and their freedom.
02:34With our father, our liberator, we say, fortunately, a handful of free men have been seen to defeat powerful empires.
02:49Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro denounced the acts of piracy committed by the United States in the region while also calling for a global protest by poor workers against imperialist aggression.
02:59During the constituent congress of the working class, the head of state declared that Venezuela has spent 25 weeks denouncing and confronting a campaign of terrorist, aggression, and piracy by the United States,
03:09which seeks to steal the country's natural resources, including oil.
03:13In this regard, the president called for peace and urged against escalating into a bloody war over oil.
03:19Also in this context, the United Socialist Party of Venezuela has issued a statement in defense of the country's sovereignty and rejecting what they describe as a rude imperialist threat.
03:33In his official statement, the PSUV highlighted that Mr. Trump, in a clear violation of international law, free trade, and free navigation,
03:40has made public its goal of executing a total naval blockade against Venezuela,
03:45with the absurd and insane warning that he will order the action until all the oil, land, and other previously stolen assets are returned to the U.S.
03:53The PSUV highlights that this incredible and irrational statement unveils the true imperial intentions of stealing the wealth that rightfully belongs to the Bolivar Republic of Venezuela.
04:03The statement closes by saying that the PSUV, as vanguard of the Bolivarian revolution, reaffirms its unbreakable commitment to the defense of national sovereignty,
04:11adding that the people will know how to defend their historical rights and triumph.
04:19And on Wednesday, the Bolivarian Armed Forces issued a statement rejecting the recent threats by U.S. President Donald Trump over Venezuela's territory and resources.
04:27The Minister of Defense for the Bolivarian Armed Forces, Vladimir Padrino LĂłpez, qualified President Trump's declarations as unreasonable
04:34and indicated a naval blockade over Venezuela's territory violates all international rights.
04:39He also emphasized that Washington's narrative of a supposed fight against drug trafficking and organized crime
04:44has collapsed under its own weight in international public opinion
04:48and revealed what President Maduro had previously warned, that this intensified offensive is about Venezuela's natural resources.
04:54On the other hand, he rejected Trump's accusations that the Bolivarian government stole oil, land and other assets from Washington.
05:02Yesterday, unfortunately, we heard some unreasonable statement from the President of the United States of America,
05:23America, where he indicated that a naval blockade was being established in the Caribbean waters
05:31with a deployment, as he himself said, without precedent, without precedent of his navy, the United States Navy,
05:44in the Caribbean, an area that is designated for cooperation, free trade and free navigation.
05:54It is not an area close to the interests of the United States. It is not.
06:02And he has announced something completely incoherent.
06:07Trump, Trump has said that we are the thieves, that we have stolen the oil that is underneath our land,
06:17but that they say belongs to them.
06:22That is a totally inconsistent and incoherent statement.
06:29In this scenario, the Public Prosecutor's Office of Venezuela also rejected the recent threats by the government of the United States.
06:39In an official statement shared on behalf of the citizens' power, on Wednesday,
06:42the Nation's Attorney General Tarek William Saab denounced the U.S. move to impose a naval blockade against the country.
06:48William Saab labeled as irrational the U.S. president's justification for the blockade,
06:52which alleges Venezuela has stolen U.S. assets and land,
06:57and reaffirmed the citizens' power commitment to defend the nation's peace and justice against foreign aggression.
07:11The people is responding, and the public authorities are taking a step forward
07:17at the forefront of this citizen power to express their total and absolute rejection
07:24of the unqualifiable threats made by the President of the United States,
07:32Donald Trump, against the people and the territory of Venezuela, on December 16.
07:38In a new chapter of his bizarre and decadent supremacist threats,
07:43Trump has threatened a total and complete blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers
07:50entering and leaving Venezuela,
07:54which, in turn, implies a brutal escalation against our sovereignty,
08:00an escalation against our right to trade freely with the world and vice versa.
08:07Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum urged the United Nations to take action in response to U.S. threats
08:17and find a peaceful solution for the region.
08:20A call for the United Nations to assume its role,
08:26which it has not been seen to do,
08:31to assume its role in preventing any bloodshed
08:37and to always seek peaceful solutions to conflicts.
08:46That is our position.
08:50And in this scenario, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum reiterated on Wednesday
08:54her country's opposition to interventionism and foreign interference.
08:58In any case, and given the situation created by President Trump's statement yesterday
09:06and the situation in Venezuela,
09:09we reiterate Mexico's position in accordance with the Constitution
09:13of non-intervention, not-foreign interference,
09:18self-determination of the peoples
09:21and peaceful resolution of disputes.
09:24We call for any international dispute to be solved through dialogue and peace,
09:35non-intervention.
09:37That's our position,
09:39by conviction and by Constitution.
09:42That must be the position of any President of Mexico,
09:46regardless of their opinion.
09:48On Wednesday, Iran contemned the United States' threats to block Venezuela's oil exports.
09:55The Iranian Foreign Ministry published the action of the United States of America
09:59to attack, seize, or obstruct the free transit of commercial ships to or from Venezuela
10:04is a clear example of state piracy and armed robbery at sea.
10:07To invoke the internal laws of the United States and its unilateral and illegal sanctions
10:11to justify these actions cannot in any way serve as a basis to legitimize such criminal acts.
10:18The Ministry also stressed it is suspected that the United Nations,
10:21the movement of non-aligned countries,
10:23and all responsible governments and relevant international institutions
10:26will condemn the illegal and coercive actions of the United States
10:30and hold the U.S. government accountable
10:31for flagrantly violating the principles of international law and the U.N. Charter.
10:37And the United States is systematically violating six fundamental instruments
10:48of international law by attempting to appropriate Venezuelan wealth
10:51and impose an illegal economic blockade on the country.
10:54Washington violates the U.N. Charter, which prohibits the use of force
10:57against the sovereignty of other states
10:59and denies the right to self-determination of the Venezuelan people over their resources.
11:03Furthermore, the White House disregards Resolution 1803 of 1962,
11:08which enshrines permanent sovereignty over natural resources.
11:11Furthermore, it also violates Resolution 2625,
11:15which prohibits economic coercion to subordinate other countries
11:18and commits economic aggression according to Resolution 3314 of the United Nations,
11:22which defines the blockade as an act of aggression.
11:26It also violates the Geneva Convention
11:27by interfering with the navigation of Venezuelan ships.
11:30These six consecutive violations turned the United States
11:34into a state outside of international law,
11:36acting as a neocolonial power.
11:42We now have our first break coming up.

11:51Welcome back.
12:02Venezuela commemorates this December 17th and 195th anniversary
12:06of the death of liberator SimĂłn BolĂvar,
12:08the most famous Venezuelan independentist in the history of the region.
12:12From Caracas, the national government placed a floral offering
12:14at the altar of SimĂłn BolĂvar as a symbol of respect
12:17and admiration for his struggle against the colonizing forces of Europe.
12:21In addition, the national flag was raised at the Liberator Forum
12:24to honor his heroic life.
12:26BolĂvar led several wars of independence
12:27against the Spanish Empire in the 19th century,
12:30with the aim of achieving the liberation of the peoples of Latin America.
12:33And on Tuesday in Washington,
12:40several congressmen described as a mockery
12:42the appearance of Secretary of State Marco Rubio
12:45and Secretary of War Pete Hexeth before Congress
12:47after they refused to show key evidence
12:49about the attacks ordered by the White House in the Caribbean Sea.
12:53Representatives and senators from both parties
12:54requested the unedited video of the second attack on September 2nd,
12:58but both secretaries maintained their decision
13:00to limit exposure to a few legislators.
13:03Some senators who have been able to see the material
13:05and have described it as devastating and disturbing
13:08are asking that both chambers be allowed to evaluate it
13:11and determine the legality of these operations.
13:13At the end of the session,
13:14several legislators reaffirmed their distrust of the operations
13:16that have already claimed more than 80 lives
13:19without investigation, without trial, and without evidence.
13:26So I just came from this classified briefing,
13:29the first that I have received,
13:30that the full Senate has received,
13:32on the military strikes in the Caribbean
13:34and in the Eastern Pacific.
13:36Well, I obviously can't tell you
13:38any classified information I learned.
13:40I can tell you this,
13:41that the administration had no legal justification
13:45for these strikes
13:47and had no national security justification
13:49for these strikes.
13:51Let me just get to the question
13:54of the national security justification.
13:56What they did admit is that there's no fentanyl
13:59coming to the United States from Venezuela.
14:02Venezuela is mainly exporting cocaine,
14:05but almost all of the cocaine
14:07that is coming out of Venezuela into the Caribbean
14:09isn't going to the United States.
14:11It's going to Europe.
14:12And so we are spending billions of your taxpayer dollars
14:17to wage a war in the Caribbean
14:20to stop cocaine from going from Venezuela to Europe.
14:25That is a massive waste of national security resources
14:28and of your taxpayer dollars.
14:32In this regard,
14:33Senator Chris Murphy underscored
14:35the lack of justification
14:36for the U.S. president's escalation of aggression
14:38in the region.
14:40What we also learned is that
14:41there's no legal justification
14:42for what is happening right now
14:44in the Caribbean and in the Eastern Pacific.
14:48The president in this briefing,
14:50his secretary of defense and secretary of state,
14:52said that the justification legally
14:55is that these cartels are designated
14:58by the president as terrorist organizations.
15:01Okay, the president does have the ability
15:03to designate certain groups
15:04as terrorist organizations,
15:05but that does not give him the ability
15:08or the authorization to carry out military strikes.
15:10A designated terrorist organization
15:12allows the president to impose sanctions
15:14on those organizations
15:16and those individuals
15:17or deny passports
15:18to the leaders
15:20of those organizations.
15:22Only Congress,
15:24only the American public
15:25can authorize war.
15:27And there is just no question
15:28that these are acts of war
15:30that the U.S. military
15:32is undertaking.
15:34So that's the bottom line,
15:35is that this briefing,
15:37which, by the way,
15:37was only about 45 minutes long,
15:40the shortest classified briefing
15:41that I have ever been a part of,
15:43they scurried out of there
15:45before they could actually
15:46get asked any tough questions.
15:48The bottom line is
15:49that this briefing made it clear
15:50that there is no legal justification
15:52for what is happening
15:53in the Caribbean
15:54and there is absolutely
15:55no national security justice.
15:58And Honduran authorities report
16:00that this Wednesday,
16:00members of the National Party,
16:02led by right-wing politician
16:03Nasri Asfura,
16:04attacked representatives
16:05of the Liberal Party
16:06and the Libre Party
16:07in a new attempt
16:07to sabotage the vote recount.
16:10The incidents took place
16:11in the early hours of the morning,
16:12while the vote count
16:13was being conducted as a result.
16:15Several members
16:16of the Liberal Party
16:17and the Libre Party
16:18were injured.
16:19In regard,
16:20the National Security Forces
16:21took control of the situation
16:22to prevent a violent escalation.
16:24Moreover,
16:25police authorities also called
16:26for the evacuation
16:27of the infop facilities
16:29and began the appropriate investigation
16:30to hold those responsible
16:32accountable under law.
16:39And the Honduran Prosecutor's Office
16:41revealed disduce
16:42the new audio recordings
16:43that would implicate
16:44former president
16:45and drug trafficker
16:45Guardo Orlando Herlandes
16:47in blocking the vote count
16:48to prevent the results
16:49of the November 30th election
16:50from being known.
16:5217 days have passed
16:53since the Honduran people
16:54went to the polls
16:55and the name of the person
16:56who will assume the presidency
16:57of the country
16:58is still unknown.
16:59The investigation
17:00by the Specialized Unit
17:01Against Electoral Crimes
17:02of the Public Ministry
17:03has released information
17:04that sheds light
17:05on the obstruction
17:06of a solution.
17:07The data showed
17:07the alleged instruction
17:09from the former president
17:10to the leaders
17:10of the Liberal Party
17:11to prevent a vote-by-vote count
17:13at all costs.
17:15Meanwhile,
17:15the president
17:16of the highest electoral body,
17:17Ana Paula Hall,
17:18after more than two weeks
17:19without results,
17:19denounces pressures
17:20and blockage
17:21on the scrutiny.
17:22A new shipment
17:28of solidity aid
17:29from Venezuela
17:29arrived at the port
17:30of Santiago de Cuba
17:32to support recovery efforts
17:33in the east of the country
17:34after Hurricane Melissa.
17:36The ship carries tons
17:37of supplies
17:38such as food,
17:38medicines,
17:39machinery and equipment
17:40to support the recovery
17:41of the affected areas.
17:42This shipment includes supplies
17:43for the recovery
17:44of infrastructure,
17:45one of the most affected areas,
17:47with damage reported
17:48in more than 116,000 homes.
17:50After the hurricane,
17:52the shipments
17:53in addition to three previous ones
17:55in the context of solidity
17:56among the countries
17:57in the region
17:58and the continuous cooperation
17:59of the Alliance
17:59in the face of natural disasters
18:01and the U.S. blockade.

18:32Russian President Biden
18:32reported we affirm
18:33on Wednesday
18:34that his country
18:35has regained full sovereignty
18:36thanks to the Army's participation
18:37in the special military operation.
18:40The Russian leader explained
18:40that another result
18:41of the special military operation
18:42is that the armed forces
18:43have improved in various areas
18:45such as troop command,
18:46tactics, strategies,
18:47equipment,
18:47and the work
18:48of the military-industrial complex.
18:50In this regard,
18:51Russian defense minister
18:52Andrei Belousov
18:53stated that the collapse
18:54of the Ukrainian armed forces'
18:55defense is inevitable,
18:56which evidences
18:57the victory of the operation.
19:17Israeli regime authorities
19:24are expected to advance plans
19:26to build 9,000 new housing units
19:28in an illegal settlement
19:29in occupied East Jerusalem
19:30in another attempt
19:31to block any possibility
19:33of a contagious Palestinian state
19:35ever emerging.
19:37Local authorities said
19:38the Israeli military plans
19:39to demolish 25 residential buildings
19:41in the Nunshams refugee camp
19:42this week
19:43and seeks to build an enclave
19:45where hundreds of Palestinians
19:46live in close proximity
19:47with the aim of blocking development
19:48in a key area.
19:50Most of the planned area
19:51is designated as state land
19:52by Israeli authorities,
19:53meaning they would not have
19:54to seek permission
19:55from Palestinian landowners.
19:57Regime forces
19:58have been quickly advancing
20:00with several major projects
20:02to build illegal settlements
20:03and pursuing annexation
20:04of the occupied West Bank,
20:06alongside its genocide award
20:07started in October 2023
20:09and has now killed
20:10more than 70,000 people.
20:17And in Palestine,
20:19at least 17 people died
20:20as a result of the collapse
20:21of residential buildings
20:22amid storms and cold weather
20:23in the Gaza Strip.
20:25Health authorities reported
20:26among the victims
20:27were four children
20:28who died as a result of the cold.
20:30They also stated
20:31that more than 17 residential buildings
20:32collapsed completely
20:33due to the climate depressions.
20:35The authorities urged
20:36the international community
20:37and the humanitarian organizations
20:38to take immediate action
20:39to provide relief to citizens
20:40amid urgent humanitarian needs.
20:48And on Tuesday in Gaza,
20:50another baby died of hypothermia
20:52in the middle of winter
20:53and the severe restrictions
20:54imposed by the genocide occupier
20:56on the entry of aid and supplies.
20:58Mohammed Khalil Abu Al-Qaer
21:00was only two weeks old
21:01and died a few minutes
21:02after receiving limited medical care.
21:05Less than two weeks ago,
21:06an eight-month-old girl
21:08died in similar circumstances
21:09amidst the heavy storms
21:11that have caused flooding,
21:12landslides,
21:13and at least 11 deaths
21:14from various related causes
21:15including hypothermia.
21:17In this regard,
21:17humanitarian organizations
21:19warn that the crisis
21:19is aggravated by the war
21:20of extermination
21:21being waged by Israel
21:22and the United States
21:23has destroyed
21:24more than 80% of Gaza's infrastructure,
21:26forcing thousands of families
21:28to live in tents
21:28in inhumane conditions
21:30without heating,
21:31electricity,
21:32or adequate protection.
