00:00So violence against women and girls is a national emergency in this country.
00:03It's why the government has an ambitious commitment to halve the current levels over the course of a decade.
00:08We're announcing more funding to support victims and survivors of domestic abuse.
00:11An extra 19 million pound going in to provide safe spaces and refuge for victims fleeing domestic violence.
00:17It's about ensuring that we can support victims and survivors who are facing these abhorrent crimes,
00:22but also ensuring that we go after the perpetrators of these crimes directly.
00:25We'll be publishing our violence against women and girls strategy imminently,
00:28looking at exactly how we prevent these crimes from happening again in the first place
00:32because this is going to need every lever at our disposal pulling together to tackle this issue
00:37if we're really, really to get to grips with it.
