00:00Michelle Yeoh is clearing up any confusion over why she handed Emma Stone's Oscar to Jennifer Lawrence
00:05just before Stone accepted the trophy for Best Actress at the Academy Awards on Sunday.
00:11Former Best Actress Oscar winner Sally Field, Charlize Theron, Jessica Lange, and Lawrence
00:16took a moment to introduce each of this year's nominees, with last year's winner Yeoh set to hand the trophy to the winner.
00:22When Stone's name was called, though, Yeoh took an extra second to hand the trophy to Lawrence instead,
00:27but it's actually for a sentimental reason.
00:29In an Instagram message to Stone, Yeoh explained,
00:32I confused you, but I wanted to share that glorious moment of handing over your Oscar to you together with your best friend Jennifer.
00:38The Everything Everywhere All At One star went on to explain that Stone and Lawrence's friendship
00:42reminds her of herself and her friend Jamie Lee Curtis.
00:46Oscar viewers were confused by the moment on Sunday, unclear why Stone hadn't accepted the award directly from Yeoh,
00:52with some asserting that the moment was an example of racism against the star.
00:56Yeoh finished her praise of Stone and Lawrence's friendship on Monday by writing,
01:00Always There For Each Other.
01:01This is Stone's second Oscar, following a win for her performance in La La Land in 2017.
01:06Previously, she has also been nominated for The Favorite in 2019 and Birdman in 2015.
