Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced plans to build a massive AI chip fabrication plant, calling it a “money printing machine” for partners TSMC and Samsung, while hinting at potential collaboration with Intel. Speaking at Tesla’s annual shareholder meeting, Musk also confirmed production of the company’s first fully autonomous “Cybercab” — a steering-less, pedal-free robotaxi — will begin in April next year. The billionaire’s bold plans come as Tesla develops its fifth-generation AI chip to power its Full Self-Driving system, reinforcing Musk’s ambition to transform Tesla into an AI and robotics powerhouse.

00:00Yes. Okay. Sorry, Elon. Okay. Okay. Yeah. So, I'm CyberCat on X.
00:06Even just normal supervised FSD is not allowed in Europe currently, which doesn't make any sense.
00:13And I've had these, like, crazy conversations with the regulators.
00:16But the thing is that we actually have agreed to buy all the chips that are made from the fab, you know.
00:24So it's basically a money printing machine for TSMC and Samsung.
00:28It's, like, literally, the faster you make the chips, the faster we send them money.
00:32But it's still not going fast enough.
00:37So that's why I think, as far as I can see, the only option is to go build some, like, very big chip app.
00:50And you've got to solve memory and packaging, too.
00:52But otherwise, you just tap out at whatever the chip production rate is.
01:00And so I guess Terra would be, you'd want to say it's got to be at least 100,000 wafer starts per month size fab.
01:07And maybe that would be one of 10 in a complex.
01:13So it would ultimately be a million wafer stars per month.
01:18Yeah, exactly.
01:19You can tell when it gets the giggle factor, that's probably a good sign that we're onto something special.
01:28Sorry?
01:29What about economies of scale and the impact it has to how you respond as an automotive company?
01:34And then we've got the first car that is specifically built for unsupervised full self-driving to be a robo-taxi.
01:46It's called a cyber cab.
01:48It doesn't even have pedals or a steering wheel.
01:50So there's no side-view mirrors.
01:59There's no, yeah.
02:00So it's very much optimized for the lowest cost per mile in an autonomous mode.
02:08And that production is happening right here in this factory.
02:12And we'll be starting production in April next year.
02:51And I'd like to thank Waymo for paving the path here.
02:55It's very helpful.
02:58So, yeah, but I think we'll be able to deploy all the cyber cabs that we produce.
03:07And the other thing is, like, once it becomes, like, extremely normal in cities, it's just going to become, like, the regulators will have just fewer and fewer reasons to say no.
03:18So all of their requirements, all of the software that they've written has to work, which is a very difficult problem, whereas we just need to make it work for our software.
03:27So, yeah.
03:27So, yeah, I think, at least it's going to be able to do so.
03:28You
