00:00The Beatles story which opened its doors in May 1990 is Liverpool's original Beatles Museum
00:06telling the incredible story of the lives and music of the Beatles.
00:10Now a plaque has been unveiled to the founders, Mersey Beat musician Mike and Kevin regular Bernie
00:15to recognise them for establishing the attraction and boosting Beatles tourism into Liverpool.
00:22Unbelievable to be honest, just much appreciated and fabulous to see all those people who were
00:29involved in the early days and a lot of friends and family, just shocked.
00:34Very, very proud, couldn't be prouder, very happy.
00:37Very, very happy and we've been trying to do this for a long time.
00:41Thanks to all the people of Beat story who've helped put this together as well.
00:45As a unique and immersive experience, the attraction invites visitors to experience Beatlemania
00:49first hand with immersive recreations of key locations in the band's career, including the Cavern Club.
00:56I started from the Cavern in 1961 and I got to know Bernie in 1961 and then I went to work
01:05for Brian Epstein, who's one of his secretaries in 1962, took over the running of the fan club
01:11from Bobby Brown and I thought it'd last a year, or my father thought it'd last a year
01:16and that year turned into ten. So I left in 1970.
01:21Home to an impressive collection of original authentic memorabilia, journey down the long and winding road
01:27from George Harrison's first guitar to John Lennon's last piano and beyond.
01:31I had my original drum kit on display for many, many years until the guy who bought it, he left it here for a few years
01:39but then he took it to Canada. So, no, I pop down every now and then.
01:43People say I was John Lennon's first drummer but I say he was my first singer.
01:47The Beatles have had a major impact on people all over the world and the legacy of the band
01:51has become a valuable asset for their hometown.
01:54Beyond the Fab Four, the musical heritage of Liverpool is rich and diverse.
01:58In fact, the city's produced more number one hit singles than any other in the world.
02:03When we started this, it started in about 1987, we started thinking about it
02:10and Liverpool was a totally different place then.
02:15There was just a trickle of tourists coming.
02:18No one wanted to visit Liverpool and all those Beatles fans were out there waiting for something to be set up.
02:24And I'm glad we did it in the way we did.
02:28Liverpool owes a huge debt of thanks to the Fab Four for attracting visitors to the city
02:32where they can discover for themselves where the inspiration for all those hits can still be found.
02:38I think it was just the quality of their music.
02:41I mean, lots of bands are successful but then they don't change their style.
02:46They just keep playing the same style where, I mean, the Beatles went from, well,
02:51she loves you to Magic and Mystery Tour, didn't they?
02:55Just incredible.
02:56And everything in between, didn't they?
