00:00slowly but surely i started preparing myself for failure which is honestly a terrible thing to do
00:07sometimes you just get so consumed by negativity and then this false perception of hopelessness
00:18that you just like you know what okay maybe there is no hope for me and you actually start believing
00:26this by the authority in the name of jesus christ receive your freedom receive your healing
00:42receive your breakthrough receive restoration receive it receive it receive it receive it
00:52receive it today greetings to everyone my name is claire and i'm from south africa
01:00so my problem started a little um into 2023 when i was in grade 11
01:10um i had this like inexplicable academic decline
01:15and it just didn't make sense to me no matter how much hard work i put in um the hours i would
01:24spend on my work when i'd get into tests or exams nothing would add up because i'd get blank black
01:34outs or i'd get so panic stricken and i get anxiety i get these hand trimmers and i wouldn't be able to
01:42write and i mean you walk in with so much confidence and then you just stuck and you don't even know
01:51how to even start on the first question because in south africa grade 11 is a very crucial year
01:58because um at the end of the year you use those results so far for universities so that was very
02:04demotivating for me because i knew this year was like my make or break i had to i had a goal in mind
02:14and i for the longest time i've always wanted to pursue medicine after high school so now with that
02:22at the back of my mind and the results i was producing i was like no there is no way certainly no
02:30way that i could get to my goal or to my dream at that rate because as you know it's a very
02:37competitive field extremely competitive so i was like you know what um there's no hope for me so
02:44slowly but surely i started preparing myself for failure which is honestly a terrible thing to do
02:52but yeah sometimes um you just get so consumed by negativity and then this false perception of
03:05hopelessness that you just like you know what okay maybe there is no hope for me and you actually start
03:13believing this what was it like you know having this fear of failure you know what was it like
03:21having to deal with the anxiety how were your grades um did you still prepare before you go to
03:29examinations or your tests you know how did how was that experience if you can share that the glory of
03:35god it was honestly awful it it was so awful yes i did still prepare but i was so over consumed by
03:45negativity anxiety and as i said this false perception of hopelessness i am not even my own
03:55creator but i was like no i see that there is no hope for me in the future no matter how much work i put
04:02in no matter how many different study methods i'd use um and the funny thing is i'd study at home
04:11and everything would be going so well i'd walk in so confidently but as soon as i just walked into
04:17that exam room everything just changed as i said the anxiety the depression the depression um sometimes i'd
04:28even get like all these negative thoughts flooding my mind before i even get the paper in front of me
04:37like just simply stepping into the exam room and then i'm getting tremors and literally cannot write
04:44so i'm sitting there and i'm waiting for my hands to stop tremoring so i can actually like process what's
04:50in front of me and actually start you know answering questions it was it was terrible
04:55honestly and then um just so happened in 2024 now um the same problem pursuit persisted and i was in
05:07grade 12 now and it just so happened that one sunday of the church my mom was talking to one of her
05:13friends and she was like oh um why don't you join her god's heart cv services one of the saturdays
05:21and you know just join one of those because she had been joining them and then my mom and i um
05:29together with the rest of our family we joined for the very first time in may of 2024 yeah so to be
05:38honest i walked in there and um sorry i joined the head life service and i was like you know
05:43today is my testimony right i i will receive you know and then i see oh no um everyone it's appeared
05:57now that everyone is manifesting and everything and i'm like i feel nothing uh is there something
06:05wrong with me what's going on but regardless i kept on joining each month uh with my mom and my family
06:12because i absolutely loved listening to the word every week um every month sorry because i would
06:21always feel that there was something very practical that spoke to me so because of that and obviously um
06:30how spiritually connected i felt during the prayer sessions i kept on joining and i was like you know
06:36um if whether i'm having an actual physical manifestation or not i i believe and i feel like
06:45this is helping me a lot it's bringing me at ease so i will keep on joining i enjoy joining so i carried
06:53on joining you know it was spiritually fulfilling whether or not i had a physical testimony or not
06:58and so i carried on and slowly but surely i was like whoa because i used to break out in hives
07:08at random all over my skin and then i realized wait i haven't complained to my mother that i broke out in
07:17hives in a week what and then i went to tell my mother this and she's like yeah and then slowly but
07:25slowly um the the tremors that i'd get as i'm writing or like those negative thoughts that just flood my
07:35mind and i'd be like i can't control them all of that also just just started like falling away if that
07:42makes sense yeah it just all just started falling away bit by bit and then i'd be like great i don't
07:50experience this anymore and i started feeling much lighter and then um just the end of may um
08:00end of april end of may that's the time that you usually apply for universities now so i was like wow
08:10i i was feeling lighter yes but i still didn't have the hope that i could pursue what i wanted to
08:20pursue i don't think i had what it takes because still my grades weren't on par yet i was still
08:26you know finding my way so i started looking at alternatives so literally anything not that i
08:36necessarily had an interest in but anything that i thought i could get by with um i just applied for
08:43in university and i literally applied to almost every single institution in this country because
08:50i was like i'm not gonna get a spot i'm literally gonna take whatever i get there are various options
08:58but i honestly didn't want to be sitting at home after my matric year i really did want to progress
09:05um for my studies further at the back of my mind i still had my dream of you know what medicine has
09:13been my lifelong dream but i didn't want to apply for it i was like no that makes no sense i my report
09:20is terrible why would i do that but my mom luckily she encouraged me and she's like you know what
09:27okay just give it a shot because whether or not it's meant for you that's for god to decide and i did
09:35i as i said i applied everywhere and then yeah i skipped to august september october november december
09:44that was when we had like our two major um periods of exams so as i said then i started feeling
09:53more lighter more confident i didn't experience any of these um um anxiety or exam hysteria during my
10:04exam it was completely gone these negative thoughts i wouldn't get anything i walk in confident and i
10:11would walk out and be like you know what god you were with me i believe you're with me when i was
10:16studying i know you were with me in this exam room now we'll walk out and prepare for my next exam and
10:23just leave it at that i don't know what to expect but i was just like i'm just gonna have faith
10:28i did my part let god do the rest so exams came out um mid-jan this year and i remember it was the night
10:38before exam but the exam was also actually supposed to come out and what happens in south africa is if
10:45you get distinctions it gets published in the newspaper at midnight and you can go to your nearest
10:51garage and find those results and then obviously the following day midday that's when you actually
10:58get your full statement with the actual marks and stuff so i remember going to bed that night because
11:05i was so so stressed and worried because i didn't know what to expect and as i said for the longest time
11:12i had been preparing myself for failure and though i started um deterring from that part
11:18i still had that bit of doubt at the back of my head so i was like let me just go to bed so i can
11:26completely forget about it and it just so happened that one of my friends had bought the newspaper
11:31and she sent a picture of it on our group chat so i'm like oh no should i look should i not
11:40i don't want to ruin my night right so i don't want to ruin my night right so i was like okay let me just
11:45look so i looked for my exam number and initially um i i think because i was very nervous i looked at
11:56the wrong exam number and then i was like oh no because i only saw two distinctions i did eight
12:02subjects and yet again i didn't know what to expect but i was like certainly i'm not going to
12:10get to my dream now you know and then my siblings heard me and they're like no she must have gotten
12:16the results right so they came rushing into my room and um they grabbed my phone and they started um
12:23cross-checking um cross-referencing to see my exam number on that uh newspaper and then they started
12:31calling out all the subjects that they saw um in the newspaper they called out each subject and then
12:37i'm counting and i'm like no you called out eight subjects there's no way please check that number
12:45again i was like check that number again there is no way i got distinctions for all my subjects there
12:50no and then my siblings were like no this is it and i felt like my world like stopped right there
13:00because i i don't know how to explain it i was so overwhelmed i felt like i was dreaming i was like
13:07me what no way ah no i didn't believe it so as i said earlier i was honestly ready to settle for
13:18anything i got so i hence i had applied to literally every single institution in this country
13:25and then um so a little later down that week um of results publications was when you'd get your
13:34responses from universities and uh all these universities um that i was looking to um for
13:42medicine were really quiet so i was like oof what's this supposed to mean and then i eventually got my
13:51first response three days later from one of the institutions and then just one by one i kept on
14:00getting acceptance letters for medicine for almost literally every institution i had applied to
14:06so i was like hold on not only do i get to study what i had been intending to what i aspired to
14:15but i get to choose which institution i want to go to and honestly it was uh it was mind-blowing
14:23and on top of that um okay so i got to university and whatever but still an issue that also had been
14:32pending from 2024 was finances i mean six years a course like this it's quite costly especially since
14:42i'm living six hours away from home accommodation tuition fees and everything else that goes in
14:48between it's quite costly and um my family is quite a big family and although my parents are like you
14:55know what we're working hard for you you don't have to worry about finances um at the back of my mind
15:01i always think you know um i'm one of four siblings my parents are supporting two families
15:09isn't it selfish of me to be like yo i went to study this for six years
15:14i was like how how is that gonna happen and then literally oh my gosh literally um two weeks
15:27after i'd come to university i'd moved in and everything it just so happened that two people
15:33from my church approached my parents and they were like no we put your daughter's name forward for a
15:42bursary just make sure that she sends through all her details and they will consider whether
15:48um they think she's eligible for this bursary and i sent my details through and i was like oh my god
15:55please make this happen if it doesn't it doesn't you know um and literally less than a week later
16:02i get an acceptance letter from this um institution saying that they would cover my studies
16:09completely for the entire year accommodation everything included and that was another blessing
16:18huge honestly i just want to say whether it takes a day a week a year or years god will always
16:30take you exactly to where he wants you to be no matter how unsure you are about a dream or a vision he
16:38has planted it will come to fruition or fruition eventually you just need to have faith in that
16:48and i feel like it's a self-fulfilling prophecy because my second name is no cotenda and that means
16:55with faith so honestly just walk by faith not by sight and give it all to god don't lose hope it's cliche
17:05yes but honestly don't lose hope
