00:00Breaking news, unfortunately, out of Sunrise.
00:06And I'd like to thank Shmit and Shmolnick for bringing this to our attention.
00:12Paul Maurice tells reporters that Florida Panthers captain Alexander Barkov
00:18is undergoing surgery for a right knee injury
00:23that was injured during practice on Thursday.
00:30His timeline as of right now is up in the air,
00:34but they are saying that it is likely that he will miss the entire season.
00:40There's no need to bring him back to scramble the last month or two of the season.
00:53This is a guy that's going to be in the organization for a number of years.
00:57And, yeah, it's unfortunate.
01:03It sucks.
01:04But if Barkov might return this year,
01:07the Florida Panthers can exceed the cap by up to $3.8 million for his injury.
01:11If he's medically declared out for the full regular season and playoffs,
01:14they can exceed the cap by his full $10 million.
01:18Then he's ineligible to play this season or the playoffs.
01:21That's damn near any player in Major League Hockey, right?
01:24Listen, if there's anybody who can get something done,
01:29you know, it's our boy Bill Zito.
01:31We're not going to learn.
01:32He's going to work his magic, I'm sure,
01:35but it is a crushing blow.
01:38Barky, Sasha Barkov, most likely out for the season
01:43after sustaining an injury in practice yesterday.
01:47And that's just a heartbreaker, man.
01:52You're not going to be able to replace him.
01:54But, you know, if this happens to other organizations around the league,
01:59you know, pack it up.
02:00Season's done.
02:02Yeah, just imagine if it happened in, like, who is it?
02:07And they just played in the Finers, the Oilers, Edmonton.
02:12Yeah, for sure.
02:12For, like, Connor McDavid.
02:14Right.
02:14Like that, you know, you're packing it up.
02:16But, of course, with this team, you know, it's a tough blow for sure.
02:21It's always going to be a tough blow.
02:22But, luckily, you know, we had that offseason
02:24where we were able to retain most of the talent.
02:26We have a good young talent coming up.
02:28We got mini Barky.
02:29You know, we got other things that definitely could benefit the team.
02:34But it's just unfortunate.
02:37It's a big loss.
02:38You won't be able to replace that.
02:40But, you know, you got to do your best to move on.
02:42Yep.
02:43Like, it's weird that one of your best players gets hurt
02:47and you still think, like, we're still sitting here thinking,
02:50no, they can still win.
02:51That's crazy.
02:52That's crazy.
02:54That is the benefit of being a Panthers fan at this moment.
02:56And one of the qualities of the team is depth.
03:01Later on, we're going to talk to Alex Donald about the Miami Hurricanes.
03:03But I know he also does halftime and post-game shows with the Florida Panthers.
03:07We'll see if he has any other information on who could be a potential acquisition
03:12and how the Panthers plan to go about this.
03:16But definitely crushing, crushing a blow.
03:19Schmiten pointed out, now they can trade for Conor McDavid.
03:22Hey, listen, we think of Conor McDavid, dude.
03:25Come on now.
03:26We're going to be looking like Seattle.
03:28The league would flip the bleep out, right?
03:31Yeah, that's fair.
03:32Would everybody in hockey lose their mind?
03:35Oh, yeah.
03:36No, no, for sure.
03:37Or call Edmonton and say, you better not do it.
03:41I think if Conor McDavid flips over, it's, you know,
03:45I would say it's like Kevin Durant when he went to the Warriors.
03:48But that was like what just happened in Boston.
03:51He wasn't traded, though.
03:52No, he wasn't.
03:55He went there on his own.
03:56He's a free agent.
03:57Yeah.
03:59Which is why I think it's like, you know, and more of like the villain, you know,
04:03the villain aspect of what Kevin Durant faced, I think, was, I think,
04:11more similar in our most recent acquisition that we got from Boston.
04:17And Marchand, I think that one mirrored the Kevin Durant situation more.
04:20This, to me, if we were to get Conor McDavid.
04:22But Marchand, keep in mind, like, Boston traded Marchand.
04:28Yeah, but, I mean, he did.
04:30But he also was like, hey, I'm only going there.
04:32So, yes, they traded him.
04:34But he said, you're sending me there, essentially.
04:36He kind of forced that trade.
04:38All right.
04:39And because I saw the behind the scenes of when they broke the trade.
04:42Everyone was devastated.
04:43It's not like, hey, we, you know, yes, we.
04:45You know what they could have did?
04:47What?
04:48Paid him.
04:49Oh, they could have, yeah.
04:50Right.
04:51You know what I'm saying?
04:52So, they could have also just given him his contract.
04:55And it would have been done.
04:58But they decided, we're not going to pay him.
05:01Let's trade him.
