Hollywood acting and directing icon Robert Redford dies aged 89

00:05Redford died in his sleep at his home in Utah. No cause of death was specified. Redford was
00:11one of the defining movie stars of the 1970s, starring in multiple films before receiving
00:17critical acclaim as a director and producer. A magnetic on-screen presence, Redford made
00:22his mark on the world of cinema through iconic roles in All the President's Men, Butch Cassidy
00:26and the Sundance Kid and Out of Africa. He received an Oscar nomination for Best Actor
00:31in his performance in 1973's The Sting. In 1980, he made his directorial debut with Ordinary
00:38People, winning four Academy Awards including Best Picture and Director. Widely considered
00:43the godfather of independent cinema, he also co-founded the Sundance Film Festival, which
00:48has acted as a platform for hundreds of independent films. He is survived by his wife, two daughters
