00:00The End
00:30Kindness and love and the fundamental belief in the decency of youth
00:44have proved at Boys Town that there is no such thing as a bad boy.
01:00Where do you think you're going?
01:03Anywhere. I just broke out of the can.
01:05But don't be worried. They won't miss me till checkup at six.
01:09We got two, three hours.
01:10What's your name?
01:11Flip Friar.
01:12What were you in the can for?
01:14I had a gang.
01:16Now, things can be easy for an inmate here, or very tough,
01:20just as he makes them himself.
01:22I saw him keel over, and you can't talk me out of it, and you can't buy me off.
01:25Take him back to solitary.
01:27Still a wise guy, ain't you?
01:29No, I'm no wise guy.
01:34Hey, lay off me!
01:37Hey, why don't you pick out someone your own size?
01:39I've been waiting for this.
01:42I don't care what he's in. I want to see Whitey Marsh.
01:45I'm telling you, he's in solitary. Nobody can see him.
01:48And I'm telling you, and I'm telling you for the last time, I want to see him.
01:51And you as the president.
01:53He's in solitary. Nobody can see him.
01:56And if you had that collar turned around, I'd convince you pretty quick.
02:09I told you I wanted to see Whitey Marsh.
02:13And I didn't do any credit to you or Boys Town, getting into the papers and everything.
02:18So I don't blame you if you're sore at me, Father.
02:20Why should I be sore at you?
02:22On the contrary, I'm proud of you.
02:24If you'd turned your back on that boy, if you had played safe and ignored the plea for help,
02:28I'd have been ashamed of you, but you didn't.
02:31You may not have been wise, Whitey, but you certainly lived up to the best teachings of Boys Town.
02:35You mean you're not ashamed of me?
02:37I'm prouder of you than any boy I've ever known.
02:50I'm prouder of you.
