00:00As the crisp autumn air settles over Newcastle, the city centre is serving up a cosy line-up of events this October.
00:07First up is Newcastle Cocktail Week, running from the 3rd to the 12th.
00:11Just grab a wristband and enjoy discounted signature cocktails at some of the city's best-loved venues,
00:17a perfect excuse to try somewhere new or revisit an old favourite in a relaxed, welcoming setting.
00:22For something a little more soulful, Queen by Candlelight at Newcastle Cathedral
00:27brings classic Queen anthems to life in a candlelit concerto-style performance,
00:32ideal for music lovers looking to unwind in a beautiful setting.
00:36If you're after something more festive, Oktoberfest Newcastle returns to Times Square across three Saturdays,
00:42with German food, live bands and hearty drinks creating a warm communal vibe,
00:47perfect for wrapping up and getting into the seasonal spirit.
00:52And for something quirky, Silent Disco's at Newcastle Cathedral on the 4th
00:56offer both family-friendly and late-night sessions, where you can dance beneath a stunning architecture,
01:01switch between music channels, enjoy an evening that's both fun and mellow.
01:06But finally, for those after a blend of local history, hands-on crafts and a child-free evening,
01:11the Discovery Night might just be your cosy cup of tea.
01:15So we thought maybe we could do some evening events so that there's not loads of children running around,
01:20you can kind of relax and enjoy the museum and we're trying to theme them around different aspects of the gallery.
01:27So just to make them a little bit different each time.
01:30So we've got, we have got a variety of activities on offer for people.
01:35So we've got a few talks about, for example, about Armstrong and Parsons.
01:39So really pioneering people in the region.
01:43And we've also got an activity where people can make proggy mats, which is quite a quite a North East craft.
01:49And it was really a lot of miners' wives did proggy mats sort of to keep them busy and to decorate the homes as well.
01:58We've got Bob Ollie is coming to tell us some anecdotes about his mining days.
02:02So he's a local artist now, but he was one of the last miners on shift at the Whitburn colliery.
02:08And he draws and paints a lot about his time as a miner.
02:12So we're going to have him talking about his time, which is really, obviously really interesting,
02:16really exciting to have him here. And we're going to have some, we're going to have a badge making
02:21activity as well to kind of keep it more creative. So we're going to have some of our collection
02:25of mining protest badges as inspiration and then people can make their own to take away.
02:30I think for people is that it's a night without children and you can look at whatever you want
02:35and it's more, it's a bit more relaxed. We have a bar as well and there's music
02:40and it's just a really, a really nice night out and it's really social. We do, the last event we did
02:48was a digital detox and people just said it was just really nice to be in the museum after hours
02:53and it felt like really relaxed and it was kind of letting go of the stresses of the day.
