00:00Hello, I'm Terry Donovan.
00:05What happened to Irina Zarutska is a heartbreaking tragedy that is shaking this city to the core.
00:12Is this the city we want to live in?
00:16Let's call it what it is.
00:17This is a hate crime.
00:20Irina was a wonderful, beautiful, and innocent 23-year-old who recently moved to Charlotte from Ukraine for a chance at a safer life.
00:30We're a new beginning, and tragically, she sat in front of the wrong career criminal on her way home on the light rail.
00:36On her way home from her job at a pizzeria.
00:40This was a preventable crime.
00:43He had been arrested 14 times.
00:46Enough is enough.
00:49This needs to serve as a wake-up call for our city.
00:56We all demand change.
00:58We deserve better.
01:00The reality is, is that the people of Charlotte no longer feel safe in their own neighborhoods.
01:07With over 17,000 property crimes in the first half of this year, 8,000 vehicle varsenees and theft, and an average of four violent crimes per day.
01:19This is no longer a matter of voting red or voting blue.
01:24This is a matter of voting for common sense.
01:26We all have to have a million people.
01:29We all have to have new leadership in Charlotte.
01:32We all deserve to feel safe in our neighborhoods.
01:36We cannot keep electing the same career politicians who can't even enforce the most basic items, such as transit fares.
01:45We don't deserve change, we don't just deserve change, we demand change.
01:55And I would like to introduce James Bowers next.
