00:00Hey guys, Joe Bonamassa here and we're broadcasting from my apartment. Still
00:15recovering from a little neck surgery so don't mind me. I look a little puffy
00:18around the face. It is what it is. You know ibuprofen is my new best friend.
00:22We're talking about telecasting or Esquiring today. Well this is a single
00:28pickup Fender Esquire 1952 and you know when I'm at home I kind of like playing
00:34them with the ashtray on. There's something about it. It just creates a
00:37different angle and you know it just gives you a few more tonal options. By
00:43the way if you want to do an Albert Collins, a dead-on Albert Collins
00:47impersonation, you got to leave the ashtray on. I did this a few years ago
00:53and I figured it out. It's because he left the ashtray on. There's a little bit of
00:57reverb and a little bit of a ping that happened. So there's a lot of cool
01:01things about an Esquire and a tally. I mean you can rule the world with one
01:06pickup. I mean if you have a good song. So you know here's the thing there's so
01:10many different sounds on this instrument. We're gonna go through them and we'll see
01:15what you guys think. So check it out.
01:26Here's some cool sounds on the Esquire.
01:53Here's some cool sounds on the Esquire. This switch, I don't know why there's one
01:58pickup but there's three positions. It does something. This one here has a filter
02:02cap on it or a little cap on it that makes it go dead tone but you get some
02:06cool things happening. Check it out.
02:08The middle position allows you to use the tone knob and the vibe knob at the same time. Very
02:24traditional go all the way back. The tone knob is disconnected.
02:51And you just have the volume straight to the jack. So...
02:58Fun for the whole family with one pickup. You know you reach for a Telecaster, an Esquire,
03:05anytime you want to be heard because they cut through the mix and they do something very
03:10special. I mean you know to think about the design, the innovation. This guitar is a
03:17fun for the whole family with one pickup you know you reach for a Telecaster and Esquire
03:27anytime you want to be heard because they cut through the mix and they do something very
03:35special I mean you know to think about the design the innovation this guitar is 70 years old or
03:42maybe 71 years old this year it was built in May of 52 and you're sitting there going wow nothing's
03:48really changed about the design in 71 years Leo got it right the first time and you use it there's so
03:55many specific um you know things you can do you can rock with the guitar you can play country music
04:01play blues I mean there's those great pictures of Bebe with an Esquire um Clarence Gatemouth Brown
04:08had an Esquire so you know I mean it's one of those things where you just go they're so versatile
04:13and you can play any style of music that you want and and do it and service the song the right way
04:22so that's why I always reach for a Tele or an Esquire it's always fun it's always fun to mess
04:27around with these things
