00:00How are we? How are you? Yeah, I'm good, thank you.
00:06It's only shining here, are we? Yeah, it looks different.
00:09Yeah, different colours, different here.
00:12No, true, that's fair.
00:15I actually walked out and walked to the left in the weekend.
00:19I thought, oh, that's not my seat, I need to go to the right.
00:23That's alright.
00:28Afternoon everybody, we will start with the broadcast section with no embargo,
00:31followed by an embargo section for 10.30pm tonight.
00:33No live tweeting during the broadcast section,
00:35and use the microphone provided. James.
00:37Thomas, can you start with the team news,
00:40and also, can you give us a bit of clarity on when you're expecting Kuliszewski to be back as well?
00:45Yeah, team news.
00:47So, Destiny is better,
00:51I have trained with the team twice, full trainings and also other trainings.
00:55Just too short to be involved for City.
00:59We want him to train tomorrow and have another good week next week as well.
01:05But he's in a good place, looks very positive about him.
01:08Biz will miss this game as well.
01:13And Kuliszewski is out, I think that's a longer one.
01:18I don't want to put a timeframe on it.
01:22But, yeah.
01:24Now look, transfers are your favourite subjects.
01:26It's almost not too long left till you don't have to have any questions about them.
01:30There's been a couple of scenarios this summer that have been played out very publicly.
01:34So, Tottenham fans have seen what happened with Morgan Gibbs-White,
01:38and then, as of very recently, with Eberici Ezer now choosing to join another club.
01:42How much of a blow is it for you when you have targets and the club has targets that you want to sign,
01:48and something doesn't quite happen and you can't get them over the line?
01:52I mean, in general, of course, you know, I don't speak about specific players unless they are at our fantastic club,
02:03then I'm more than happy to speak about all our players.
02:06So, yeah. So that's one thing.
02:10Secondly, there's been a lot of rumours linked.
02:16A lot of players, also players, I think, oh, he's been linked with us, interesting.
02:19But a lot of times where there's definitely nothing in it.
02:23That's part of the business we talked about before.
02:25There must be someone out there, I think it's good fun to put the rumours out there.
02:29But anyway, there will be a lot of links, there has been a lot of links, there will be a lot of links in the future.
02:36And just to generalise that, to make it very, very clear,
02:41I don't want any players that don't want to come to the club.
02:45They don't want to come to the club and wear this fantastic badge, then we don't want them here.
02:50I think that's very clear.
02:53And I'm also pretty sure that the fans will feel the same.
02:56If they don't want to put the fantastic shirt over their head, play for the badge, play for the club,
03:02really enjoy it, no problem.
03:05Then we don't want them there.
03:06So, I think that's a key message.
03:09What message would you give to those fans, though, who see those names,
03:13probably understand everything you're saying about wanting to come here,
03:16but maybe set their hopes and expectations on those players potentially coming?
03:21What's your message now to fans considering there's only nine days left in the window?
03:25I think, as I said, there's a couple of things.
03:29I said it many times, I'll say it again.
03:31The club is working very hard to see if we can strengthen the squad.
03:36And we only want to strengthen the squad with players that we think is good enough,
03:40we can improve the squad.
03:42So, that's they've done from the beginning, and that will continue doing until the end of the window.
03:47Thomas, look, you spoke about Richarlison quite a bit.
03:50You've been asked lots of questions on him.
03:53Started very well under you the first couple of games.
03:56There's still plenty of talk about where his future lies,
03:59and whether he was included in a potential deal with another club to bring in a player.
04:04I'm trying not to mention any names right now.
04:06What's the message to him when there are rumours circulating,
04:11or there is potential that he might be used to bring in some other players?
04:15What's the message to him?
04:16Because I'm sure you want him firing on all cylinders for you when you've got him.
04:20Right now, he is my starting nine.
04:22He scored two fantastic goals, he had two top games.
04:25He's the Brazilian number nine.
04:27He is a very good player.
04:29So, I'm very happy with him.
04:31Rich, you want to stay?
04:34I want to keep him.
04:35There's been no talks about anything else.
04:37He's done well for us.
04:39Thanks, Thomas.
04:40Afternoon, Thomas.
04:42In terms of your creative options at the moment within the squad,
04:45how do you view that area of the pitch?
04:48Are the club actively looking for a player in that particular area?
04:53I think we just played the first game and scored three goals,
04:58so I think that was pretty promising.
05:01I know it was a long season and we don't need enough players
05:04and players with different abilities.
05:07I think in some of the players we have,
05:11Kudas, I think, has got that spark and creativity.
05:16I think Wilson does it as well.
05:19I think Matisse Tell can play different positions.
05:21We've got two good strikers in Dom and Richie and then Brennan,
05:25you know, the deep runner.
05:26So, I think we've got, how can you say, variation up the pitch.
05:31But, again, we look out there and if there's anything that can strengthen it,
05:38and that is in all areas, then we're open for it.
05:43Clean sheet last weekend.
05:45And, of course, you employed a back four last weekend.
05:48We saw a back five against PSG.
05:50In terms of your extensive experience of facing Manchester City
05:53and going to the Etihad Stadium and, you know,
05:56really taking them down to the wire,
05:58because I think last season it was 2-1 to City in that game at the Etihad Stadium.
06:02What do you feel is the best approach to getting a result there and against City?
06:07I don't think there is a go-to system or a go-to approach.
06:14That is something we are working hard on, of course, with our principles.
06:20I think the main thing is that we need to go there and be brave.
06:24We need to have enough spells on the ball where we can control phase one and two.
06:30I think would be a big, big area.
06:33And then I think it's, you know, it's a team that has been, except from last year,
06:40I think the four or five years before that,
06:42they were probably the best team in the world.
06:45And there is no doubt that they want to bounce back.
06:48They've definitely been active in the transfer window.
06:51If I know well enough, you'll do everything you can to have demands,
06:55but also to push the players and want to bounce back,
06:59and they'll come flying out.
07:01So we definitely need to be good on the defensive side of the game.
07:05But that's not only low,
07:06it's also hopefully being brave in the high pressure.
07:08So I think it's about brave and aggressive is two key words.
07:12I mentioned the game against PSG.
07:14Obviously it was a really good performance for around 80 minutes.
07:17Another result wasn't the one that you'd wanted.
07:19A great performance and a result against Burnley last weekend.
07:22So if you were to go to the Etihad Stadium tomorrow and get a positive result,
07:26what kind of a message do you think that would send out to everyone?
07:29What kind of a marker do you think it could put down early on in this campaign?
07:32I think the next game is the most important game and that is against City.
07:37I see one of the three big contenders for the titles.
07:43We know they're a fantastic team and a fantastic manager.
07:48So to get a result there, but also with a good performance,
07:53that will just build a bit on the momentum and the bits we have here.
07:58So we're fully confident.
08:00We believe we can get a result there.
08:02That's what we're playing for.
08:03To be brave, but also extremely respectful about Manchester City.
08:08Thanks, Thomas.
08:10Hi, Thomas. How are you?
08:13I'm good, thank you.
08:14You stated earlier you only want players to come and play for you at this club
08:18that want to wear the shirt, really want to wear the shirt and really committed.
08:22In that respect, is it a positive then that the player you were chasing this week
08:27who is an Arsenal supporter and wants to go to Arsenal
08:31actually looks like he's going to join Arsenal rather than come and join you?
08:35I don't know about whoever the player is, whoever they support.
08:41I actually do not care too much about because we all have a past.
08:47The main thing is if the player want to come or not want to come.
08:50So if they are from Spain, Denmark, Brazil, it doesn't matter.
08:54If they want to come, perfect.
08:56To that end, this summer you've high-profile been chasing two players,
09:01one at Forest and one at Palace.
09:04Presumably that money is still there for you to spend in the next ten days
09:08in whatever position on the pitch you feel you need to spend it on.
09:11Is that correct?
09:13The correct is that we are in the market and we will look to see if we can strengthen the team.
09:19That's the main bit and that's what we are focusing on.
09:23I think we need to have some good processes to work hard to see if we can strengthen it.
09:29But again, I've said it before, I think we've got a good squad, we've got good players.
09:34I just saw 23 committed players working very hard on the game plan for Formula City tomorrow
09:42and that's what I'm excited about.
09:44And despite the long-term injuries you have with James Madison, Dejan Kuliszewski
09:48and Hummin Son having left the club, you're confident, off the back of that answer I take it,
09:53that if you don't sign anybody between now and the closing of the transfer window,
09:58this club is well equipped to be very competitive in the Premier League and Champions League.
10:03I think it's a good question.
10:06Of course we need to do everything we can to make sure we are as competitive as possible.
10:12As I said before, I think we've got six good front players that I think is very competitive
10:22across all the competition we're going into.
10:25And then Kuliszewski, he will come back in this season, I think that's a big thing.
10:30It's probably longer term with Madison, unfortunately.
10:34But I'm also pretty confident that we will sign a player before the end of the window.
10:39Hi Thomas, it's kind of following on from that in a way, and I guess it's about those numbers.
10:44It's about Kuliszewski and Palina coming in as the two new faces, but then Sonny and Mada's going out.
10:49So is the squad really stronger than the one you inherited when you first came in?
10:53You can say that two players in, two players out, so probably pretty similar, I would say.
11:05But also, as I said, I think my first press was that I think it's a good squad.
11:10I think there's some talented players, I think there's some quality players in there as well.
11:15So probably the same level, but I think that's good.
11:20And then it's up to me together with the players and the staff to make sure we can compete.
11:25And then as I said, we do what we can to strengthen it.
11:29I think you said in a previous press conference, ideally every manager would like players in early in the window
11:34because you can work with them and everything.
11:35Yeah.
11:36But is there any fear with this stage, with ten days left or so,
11:39that we're at this stage where the club is trying to assign players from clubs
11:42that at this point maybe don't want to sell them because it's so late in the window?
11:46I don't know. In general, I think any club want to sign as early as possible.
11:50I don't think anyone would want to do that differently.
11:53If it was that easy, then everyone could do it.
11:57I, you know, I'm a positive guy. I'm not that fearful if that makes sense.
12:07I believe that something will happen.
12:12I think on tour you mentioned about trying to get the, it's a natural process of the recruitment side,
12:17getting to know you a bit better like you had at Brentford and streamlining that.
12:20Where are you at with that? Has that got any kind of further down the line now?
12:24I think that's a, like, that's an ongoing process. That is, that is, that is every day, every week.
12:29How we do things, how we understand each other, how they understand, let's say the type of football,
12:36how I see players, how I see the game. So that, that will only grow over time.
12:40To expect it to be perfect in eight-week time is probably not realistic. But we are definitely getting closer.
12:50I just want to tag on very quickly because it's part of the same thing.
12:52I think you said the coaching staff as well. Your meetings at Brentford were 15 minutes and here they're an hour.
12:57Have they got brought that down yet?
12:59Maybe 57 minutes. So slightly better. No, good processes.
13:03I also love to discuss football and I love to develop and get better.
13:13And that we only do by discussing things. So I think it's been some fantastic discussions.
13:18Thanks. Welcome. Finish with Georgia at the back, please.
13:20Hi, Thomas. A lot has gone on this week, but it did start with Christian Romero signing a new deal.
13:25So you're not going to be asked about his contract situation anymore.
13:28How sort of pleased are you that he's going to be here for the long term?
13:31I think very pleased. I think that's, I think that was a fantastic signal from, from the club.
13:37And of course from, from Christian Romero as well, that he believed in the, in the club and the project and the journey we just started.
13:46So, so I was extremely happy with that. And I also think that's, I understand the exciting thing is, is to, to sign players.
13:55But I think is as exciting or maybe even more crucial is to sign existing, existing, that was difficult, top players.
14:04And he's one of the top players and he's our captain. So I believe in that, I think was a, was a big statement.
14:10And I guess just from your own point of view, you know, you kind of inherited a tricky situation.
14:14You've replaced the manager that's just won a trophy, but it feels like you've made a really strong start to life at Spurs.
14:19The PSG performance, obviously Burnley win. Kind of from the outside, it almost feels like you've been let down.
14:24You've been let down so far with this transfer window with only two in and two out.
14:28Do you kind of feel like you've been let down?
14:30No, I think, I think, say to my, say to my players, if they work very hard, you know, and, and, and do everything they can.
14:42We can't ask for more. I know the club is working extremely hard.
14:45And it's unfortunately not, how can we say, we can't go in waitrose and I want to buy two good players and then, and then go walk away five minutes later.
14:54It's a little bit more complicated. So I see, I see the club work hard. I see Daniel working extremely hard. Johan, Vinay.
15:02And we're all on board in terms of do what we can do to improve.
15:07And just funny for me, the, the three five two formation worked really well against PSG.
15:12And you've used that in the past against Mansea to, to good effect.
15:15I guess when you've kind of got a system like that, that you know can work, do you just go with it anyway, even though there isn't a surprise element?
15:23Or do you always like to have a kind of surprise element up your sleeve when you don't go into these big games?
15:28I get trained every, every game a little bit different compared to, but that's definitely on in my mind.
15:36So if I have two, definitely my mind, whatever, four, two, three, one, and I will take a decision on what we do.
15:45You'll see that tomorrow. But I'm always thinking, hmm, how can we tweak it a little bit inside out?
15:53Our principles. And then, of course, systems can do something, but principles is the most important thing.
15:58So, yeah, I will use, as I said, I'll be pragmatic. I'll use different systems, different ways to, to win football matches.
16:06Terrell in the brook.
