Death toll rises as wildfires continue to burn across southern Europe

Firefighters in Spain, Portugal, Greece and Turkey continue to battle wildfires that have raged on for weeks. Hot and dry conditions are expected to persist, challenging efforts to contain the blazes.

00:00Firefighters in Spain, Portugal, Greece and Turkey continue to battle wildfires
00:06as hot, dry conditions persist, challenging efforts to contain the flames.
00:11Portugal had its first death as a result of wildfires which have raged on for multiple weeks.
00:17In the Guarda district, the charred body of the former mayor of a small town was found,
00:22in an area where lack of resources is hampering firefighting efforts.
00:26Around 4,000 firefighters are tackling around 10 fires throughout central and northern Portugal.
00:33Spanish firefighters are battling 14 fires across the country,
00:37which have left three people dead, including two volunteer firefighters.
00:41A wildfire in Greece burned out of control for a fourth day on the island of Rios,
00:46prompting several more overnight evacuations.
00:49Firefighters in Turkey also continue to tackle fires across several provinces,
00:54and many appear to be largely contained by Saturday.
