Kenya's CHAN 2024 quarterfinal hosting rights at risk over fan riot

Speaking to the press on Tuesday, LOC Chairman Nicholas Musonye cautioned that new crowd troubles in Sunday’s match against Zambia could mean that Kenya "may not host the quarterfinal".

00:00Kenya has been hit with a $50,000 fine from the Confederation of African Football
00:05over multiple safety and security breaches during Sunday's African Nations Championship match against Morocco.
00:13The East African country is co-hosting the tournament, known as Chan, alongside neighbours Tanzania and Uganda.
00:21During the opening match against the DRC last week, several Kenyan fans accessed Nairobi's Kassarani Stadium
00:27unauthorised, assaulted game staff and lit a fire inside the venue,
00:33resulting in a separate $17,000 fine against the co-host nation.
00:38As a result of the security concerns, Kenya's next match against Zambia will be played
00:43before a reduced crowd of just 27,000 people, 60% of stadium capacity.
00:50If problems persist, Kenya could also lose future hosting bids, including the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
