00:00The Transport Minister has announced that the Cabinet today approved a new order meant to treat with the demerit points system.
00:07Speaking after the Cabinet meeting, Minister Eli Zakur said that under the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act 4850,
00:15there are currently 99 violations or offenses, 69 of which carry demerit points.
00:2163 violations and 6 criminal offenses. Cabinet has approved the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Amendment to the 9th Schedule, Order 2025.
00:34Once this order is signed by me, the 9th Schedule of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act will be amended by deleting the demerit points
00:46for all violations except for items 6, 23, 227.
00:54However, the Transport Minister said the demerit points have not been removed entirely.
01:00The six criminal offenses, the demerit points, will remain.
01:05Those six are driving while disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving permit,
01:10driving while under the influence of drug, driving or being in charge of a vehicle with your blood alcohol level exceeding the limit,
01:20failure to provide a specimen of breath or blood, failure to submit for breath analysis, and careless driving.
01:29I am signing the order shortly.
01:31And the Transport Minister also responded to questions from the media
01:35about the issue of private cars which operate for hire, including rideshares.
01:41Currently, PH vehicles are private vehicles.
