00:00On this day in space. In 1965, after a four-day mission and 62 orbits, NASA's
00:08Gemini 4 mission returned to Earth with an Atlantic Ocean splashdown. Gemini 4
00:12was NASA's 10th crewed spaceflight. It also included the first spacewalk by an
00:16American astronaut, Ed White, who floated outside the spacecraft for about 20
00:20minutes. White was able to push himself out of the capsule by using a handheld
00:25maneuvering oxygen jet gun. After three minutes the fuel ran out and White had
00:29to return to the spacecraft by pulling on the tether and twisting his body. This
00:34flight was the first in American history to perform scientific experiments in
00:37space. Eleven in total. And that's what happened on this day in space.
