00:00Sudan's paramilitary rapid support forces, RSF, have transformed the Zamzam
00:06displacement camp in North Darfur, once one of the largest havens for civilians
00:11fleeing violence, into a full-fledged military barracks. The camp, which had
00:17sheltered over 300,000 displaced people and was already facing severe food
00:22shortages, has now been repurposed for RSF operations following their
00:26consolidation of controlling the area. Eyewitnesses, accounts and reports from
00:32humanitarian organizations describe a grim scene. RSF fighters replacing tents
00:38with fortified positions, installing checkpoints and cutting of access to aid
00:43workers. With famine already declared in the region, the militarization of Zamzam is
00:49worsening the plight of civilians who are either trapped or forced to flee once
00:53again. International watchdogs and rights groups have condemned the move,
00:58warning that the use of humanitarian zones for military purposes violate
01:03international law and could amount to war crimes.
