00:04And then Jeremiah walks in singing Frozen, which is a major change from the book.
00:09Hi, we're the cast of The Summer I Turned Pretty, and we're here to catch you up on seasons one and two ahead of season three.
00:16This is previously on The Summer I Turned Pretty.
00:21Based on Jenny Han's beloved book trilogy, this series is about a love triangle between my character,
00:27Isabelle, aka Belly, and the Fisher Brothers, and by these two right here,
00:32who are the sons of Belly's mom's best friend.
00:35The two families spend the summer together at their house in Cousins Beach.
00:39Yeah, you get to see how the love triangle plays out.
00:43The show begins at the start of the summer when Belly's 16.
00:47She's always had a not-so-secret crush on Conrad,
00:52and hopes that this will be the year that they get closer.
00:55Like, too bad with glasses.
00:57Too bad.
00:58Conrad's acting all closed off, and moody, and you know, we don't really know what's changed.
01:03Then at the bonfire, Belly gets upset when she sees Conrad kissing another girl.
01:07When an argument between Conrad and a local team results in Belly getting hit,
01:13Conrad decides to fight the guy.
01:15And then Belly kisses Cam Cameron, who we will see more of later.
01:20Cam Cameron?
01:21Next, we see Belly start to get ready for the debutante ball later that summer.
01:26She and Cam Cameron go on a date to the drive-in movie theater.
01:30Conrad, Jeremiah, and Belly's older brother Stephen crash the date thinking it will be funny.
01:35What the hell do you think you're doing?
01:37Belly, of course, gets super upset because it's not funny.
01:40This pushes her further away from Conrad, and even closer to Cam.
01:45Then it's Belly's birthday.
01:47Her best friend Taylor comes to visit, and she is pretty hostile towards Conrad.
01:52Well, I mean, she's heard everything that's been happening.
01:54She knows that Conrad loves to play mind games with Belly.
01:58Yeah, she doesn't want anybody f***ing their friend.
02:00Yeah, she wants to protect Belly.
02:02Susanna hosts a birthday party for Belly, and then they head out to Belly's debutante Biggs party.
02:08And there, oh my god, Belly finds Taylor making out with Stephen.
02:13Cam starts to worry that there are feelings between Belly and Jeremiah.
02:16Are you into Jeremiah?
02:18Belly and Jeremiah were always best friends and always very close.
02:22I think up until this point it's been pretty platonic, but they're close in a way that I don't think they are with anyone else.
02:29So they have a really special bond that starts growing into more, but I think that's why Cam starts to get a little skeptical.
02:37Yeah.
02:38Belly's snooping around. She finds an infinity necklace in Conrad's room.
02:45She quickly realizes that it was supposed to be a birthday gift for her when he said he didn't get her anything for her birthday,
02:52and she wonders why he never gave it to her.
02:55It's a very important symbol in their past, and she's like, why didn't you give it to me?
03:00Things take a heartbreaking turn when Susanna tells Laurel that she's been fighting cancer and has decided to not continue any treatment.
03:07I just want one last perfect summer at Cousins. That's all I want.
03:13Then we get to the big 4th of July party.
03:16Everybody's drunk on margaritas.
03:18Woo!
03:19They're drinking.
03:20Woo!
03:21Underage.
03:22Oh, no.
03:23Belly reveals to Conrad that she knows that he bought the necklace for her.
03:25Nice.
03:26How many of those have you had?
03:28It was fun getting to play a little drunk Belly.
03:31Two, five, it's not important.
03:34Because Belly's had a little bit to drink, she's a little more able to say a little something that she hasn't been able to say,
03:41and you sort of see this kind of tension between them, I guess.
03:45Later that night, Conrad and Belly almost kiss on the boardwalk before they're interrupted by Jeremiah.
03:50He's looking pretty jealous.
03:53They're interrupted by attempted murder.
03:59Crazy, dude.
04:00And now that Belly is overwhelmed with her feelings for both Conrad and Jeremiah, Belly decides to do a big girl thing and break it off with Cam Cameron.
04:10And so Conrad admits to Belly that he thinks about her, but he feels like he can't be with her.
04:16So Belly tells him that she's done waiting and storms off.
04:20Good for her.
04:21Jeremiah confesses his feelings for Belly during a late night swim and they kiss.
04:27And Tyler the Creator starts playing.
04:29Oh, that's good.
04:30Who's there?
04:31He starts singing live.
04:33And then there's another episode and we find out that Conrad has known about his mom, Susannah's cancer, and he's kept it a secret and hasn't told anybody.
04:41I mean, she doesn't want me or my brother to know.
04:43Finding out would crush her, it would ruin everything.
04:46And that begins to explain why he has been so moody all summer.
04:50Can I take you to the ball?
04:52And so Conrad tries to make amends with Belly and asks to be her escort to the debutante ball.
04:57So she says...
04:58I'll think about it.
04:59Think about it.
05:00She'll think about it.
05:01What?
05:02I don't know.
05:03This is just funny.
05:04I'll think about it.
05:05I'll think about it.
05:06After that, we see the whole crew at the annual volleyball tournament.
05:10Taylor is very much Team Jeremiah, so she tries to get him and Belly close to each other during the game.
05:16And Jeremiah comes to save the day, but he sucks at volleyball.
05:19Belly's competitive and she's like, Conrad's a better athlete, puts him in there, and then they go on to win the tournament.
05:26Gavin's good at volleyball though.
05:28And while she picks Conrad as her volleyball tournament partner, she does pick Jeremiah as her escort to the debutante ball over Conrad.
05:37And he does indeed escort her, complete with an impressive group dance.
05:41Later that night, Jeremiah becomes emotional, responding to the news that he found out that his mom has cancer.
05:48Conrad doesn't know that.
05:49Doesn't know that Jeremiah knows.
05:50Doesn't know that Jeremiah knows.
05:51I feel like that's important to understand because otherwise, it's kind of shady.
05:55He sees Jeremiah's absence as an opportunity to step in and dance with Belly.
06:00That moment at the debutante ball, the way I loved you moment, is just so perfect and so beautiful.
06:05And it's such a fond memory for me filming that dead ball scene.
06:09One of the days that we filmed was my birthday, so it was just this really incredible, fun day where we were all dressed up and everything.
06:16When Jeremiah realizes that Conrad knew about Susanna but never said anything, they just start going at it and fighting.
06:24That was fun.
06:25Yeah, I think they start fighting might be generous.
06:29Anyways, Conrad finally tells Belly that he's been conflicted all summer about telling her about his mom's cancer.
06:36You know, this sort of changes Belly's feelings about Conrad because she finally has an explanation.
06:40This season ends with Conrad and Belly sharing a kiss in front of the sunrise as this love by Taylor Swift plays.
06:47Sorry, it was a fly.
06:49When the show returns for season two, we learn that Susanna has tragically passed away from her battle with cancer.
06:56Everyone is grieving.
06:58Belly's taking the loss pretty hard.
07:00Her grades are slipping.
07:02She got kicked off her volleyball team.
07:04And her relationships with Conrad and Jeremiah have unraveled in a lot of ways.
07:09Conrad's now studying at Brown, but Jeremiah gets a call from Conrad's roommate saying he abruptly left school and they don't know where he is.
07:17But I'm coming with you.
07:18Jeremiah and Belly eventually track him down after a lot of hard work at Cousins Beach.
07:23After a lot of hard work.
07:24We looked everywhere.
07:25Oh, he's home.
07:27On the way to the beach house, Belly apologizes for not being sensitive to Jeremiah's emotions in both the love triangle with Conrad and in the aftermath of Susanna's death.
07:37When Belly and Jeremiah get to the house, Conrad tells them that the house has been put up for sale.
07:43Yeah.
07:45Sorry.
07:47I don't know why I said yeah.
07:49In flashbacks, we get the highly anticipated hot cocoa scene from the book.
07:55Wow, dude.
07:57Amazing.
07:58Really dusty.
07:59Complete with snow on the beach, Belly and Conrad sleep together for the first time, which is a big...
08:05And then Jeremiah walks in singing Frozen.
08:08Which is a major change from the book.
08:10It was done pretty beautifully and you kind of get to just see them connect in this moment, like in a really intimate way.
08:17And also lots of lines from the book.
08:20Back in present day, Conrad explains that their aunt, Julia, Kira Sedgwick.

08:27Is selling their house.
08:28Belly and Jeremiah track down Aunt Julia and cousin Skye to try and convince Julia to keep the house, but she refuses.
08:36Taylor and Steven then join Conrad, Jeremiah, and Belly in Cousins Beach for support.
08:41Belly invites Skye on a trip to the boardwalk with the rest of the group so that they get a chance to hang out with their cousins and like just really have a fun summer at Cousins.
08:50And they also reunite with Cam for a super fun montage of arcade games that was actually very, very fun to film.
08:55It was a great time.
08:57Oh my god.
08:58Yeah.
08:59Oh, I don't do hugs.
09:00I don't do hugs.
09:01Who's the best?
09:02It depends on the game.
09:03Me.
09:04It really did depend on the game.
09:05I would say Chris probably won a lot.
09:06Basketball?
09:07I would say it's me.
09:08Oh yeah, Chris sweat.
09:09I would say it's probably me for all of them.
09:11I think we all agree.

09:13Yeah, Chris.

09:15It's me, Lola.
09:16When they get back to the beach house, they realize Julia had all of the belongings removed.
09:19Gone.
09:20Poof.
09:21So sad.
09:22And with nowhere to go, Cam sneaks the kids into a country club that his mom likes at.
09:26And they split off into groups.
09:27Belly goes with Jeremiah.
09:28She realizes he might have had a crush on her for way longer than she'd ever thought.
09:33We also see Steven get close to kissing Taylor, but then he gets interrupted by Conrad and
09:38Jeremiah.
09:39Lock.
09:40Everyone gets back together, and they joyride some golf carts around the country club,
09:45and they sleep outside on the golf course.
09:48Cheers.
09:49Really cold.
09:50It was fun.
09:51Jeremiah turns down a kiss with Belly in a game of truth or dare.
09:54You're only too old for that kind of .
09:56Right?
09:57I think that line is so funny, and you deliver it so well.
10:00That was really fun.
10:01That was a fun time.
10:02And then later, when she asks him why.
10:04He says, because if I kiss you, I don't know if I could ever stop.
10:09Romance.
10:10These three have a lot of trouble with communication, so it's always nice when one of them
10:16communicates efficiently.
10:17Says what they're truly feeling.
10:18Effectively.
10:19And then later takes it back, probably.
10:21The kids return to the beach house to find that Julia sold the house.
10:26She just sold it.
10:27She's quick.
10:28With everybody very, very heartbroken, Belly decides that to cheer everyone up and to
10:33say a proper goodbye to the house, they should throw one last farewell party in the house.
10:39She convinces the gas station attendant, Jumper, to sell them alcohol after Conrad isn't able
10:46to with his ID.
10:48Get a better fake, dog.
10:49Jenny Han was there, too.

10:51We see Steven and Taylor growing closer, even though Taylor currently has a boyfriend, Milo.
10:59Like the lemonade.
11:00Is it?
11:01Milo?
11:02Milo's lemonade?
11:03No?
11:04Okay.
11:05Nevermind.
11:06That night, Milo shows up at the party and walks in on Steven and Taylor performing their
11:11childhood dance routine to party in the USA, and it's pretty epic.
11:15And then the moment's killed because Milo and Steven get in a fist fight.
11:19And after that, Milo leaves and Taylor stays with Steven because he remembered her middle name.
11:26Madison.
11:27And her middle name is Madison.
11:29Wow.
11:30It's romantic.
11:31Also, at the party we see a kiss between Sky and Cam.
11:35And an almost kiss between Belly and Jeremiah.
11:38Belly learns that Conrad had talked to his brother about their relationship, which leads
11:43to their big beach fight scene where she declares that she would have fought for him if
11:48she'd known how he felt, if he'd communicated.
11:51Communication is important, guys.
11:53Yes.
11:54Very important.
11:55And the episode ends with Belly drunkenly calling her mom, crying.
11:59Everything is going wrong.
12:02The boys may never speak to each other again.
12:06Laurel shows up to the house, angry at how it's been trashed, which is pretty fair.
12:12She wakes up hung over Belly to clean it.
12:14She hits her.
12:15Then she saves the day.
12:16She convinces Aunt Julia not to sell the house.
12:19Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah all seem to patch up their drama, and they join forces to help
12:23Conrad study for his biology exam so that he doesn't get kicked out of school.
12:28Yes, but the next day Belly admits she still has feelings for Jeremiah.
12:32And she did try to admit this to Conrad as well, but he fell asleep in like five seconds.
12:37And Conrad catches Belly and Jeremiah kissing.
12:40So Conrad's pissed.
12:42Naturally, as he always is.
12:43I don't know.
12:44He is upset.
12:45Jerry built my make out, and he does not handle that too well.
12:49All three of them are stuck together in a car driving Belly back.
12:52And Conrad spends the entire time being a total jerk to her and Jeremiah, which he was actually doing it in real life too.
12:59He was pushing everyone's buttons.
13:00He was.
13:01He was staying in character.
13:02He was.
13:03Yeah, I'm a method.
13:04The entire time.
13:05As if things couldn't get more awkward, a big storm comes through and forces the trio
13:09to stop at a motel to wait it out through the night.
13:12Of course there's only one bed.
13:14As they're sleeping on opposite sides of the bed, Conrad finally tells Belly the truth
13:18about how he still wants to be with her, and Jeremiah says he will step aside.
13:23Belly feels like she still has feelings for Conrad.
13:26Your mature thing to say.
13:27In the morning, Belly decides she wants to be with Jeremiah, and then he evicts Conrad
13:31from her heart.
13:32Conrad, of course, reacts by being sad and taking back his previous confession.
13:37I just want you to know that whatever I said, I didn't mean it.
13:41After promising to reunite on the 4th of July as they always do at the beach house,
13:45he gives Belly her infinity necklace and puts on a brave face until he leaves the door
13:51and then he breaks down against the wall.
13:53And the season ends with Jeremiah taking Belly to her volleyball camp where she successfully
13:57convinces her coach to let her back on the team.
14:00Steven and Taylor also get together, and Conrad's left alone.
14:03But he's at the house.
14:05He's got his house back.
14:06Yeah.
14:07He'll be okay.
14:08And alone.
14:09And alone.
14:10But he's working on himself.
14:11You would think.
