The Prime Minister has just voted here at Marrickville, West Comersfield in his own
00:08
electorate of Grain Lake, joined by fiancé Jodie and his son Nathan.
00:14
Obviously he would have voted for himself, the only vote he can truly counter on Election
00:19
Day.
00:20
But after a 35 day campaign, his fate now rests in the hands of the 18 million Australian
00:27
voters.
00:28
The PM started his day in Melbourne at the MCG on hallowed sporting ground.
00:34
He repeated his analogy that he likes to kick with the wind in the fourth quarter, or in
00:38
other words, be ahead in the polls when it matters.
00:41
And he is.
00:42
The latest news poll published in The Australian puts Labor ahead of the Coalition 52.5% to
00:48
47.5% after preferences.
00:51
All major published opinion polls are pointing to a Labor victory, but they vary as to whether
00:56
Labor can pick up enough seats to govern in majority.
00:59
Anthony Albanese says he is working to ensure Labor can govern in his own right.
01:04
Three million Australians have on average a $5,500 incentive to vote Labor today and to
01:13
make sure that we have a majority Labor government.
01:15
After the MCG, the PM stopped by the ultra marginal liberal held seat of Menzies.
01:21
It's one Labor believes it actually might be able to pick up tonight.
01:25
Of all the states, Victoria is where the Labor brand is perhaps at its weakest.
01:29
If it manages to win a seat in the state, it would be a big morale boost.
01:34
But after five weeks, 35 days, the election campaign is drawing to a close.
01:40
And after six o'clock tonight, the Prime Minister will learn if he's made history, becoming the
01:45
first Prime Minister in 21 years to win consecutive elections.
