Prime Minister Anthony Albanese casts his own vote at the polls

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has casted his vote in his electorate Grayndler. After a 35-day campaign, Albanese will be seeking to make history tonight by becoming the first prime minister since 2004 to win consecutive elections.

00:00The Prime Minister has just voted here at Marrickville, West Comersfield in his own

00:08electorate of Grain Lake, joined by fiancé Jodie and his son Nathan.

00:14Obviously he would have voted for himself, the only vote he can truly counter on Election

00:19Day.

00:20But after a 35 day campaign, his fate now rests in the hands of the 18 million Australian

00:27voters.

00:28The PM started his day in Melbourne at the MCG on hallowed sporting ground.

00:34He repeated his analogy that he likes to kick with the wind in the fourth quarter, or in

00:38other words, be ahead in the polls when it matters.

00:41And he is.

00:42The latest news poll published in The Australian puts Labor ahead of the Coalition 52.5% to

00:4847.5% after preferences.

00:51All major published opinion polls are pointing to a Labor victory, but they vary as to whether

00:56Labor can pick up enough seats to govern in majority.

00:59Anthony Albanese says he is working to ensure Labor can govern in his own right.

01:04Three million Australians have on average a $5,500 incentive to vote Labor today and to

01:13make sure that we have a majority Labor government.

01:15After the MCG, the PM stopped by the ultra marginal liberal held seat of Menzies.

01:21It's one Labor believes it actually might be able to pick up tonight.

01:25Of all the states, Victoria is where the Labor brand is perhaps at its weakest.

01:29If it manages to win a seat in the state, it would be a big morale boost.

01:34But after five weeks, 35 days, the election campaign is drawing to a close.

01:40And after six o'clock tonight, the Prime Minister will learn if he's made history, becoming the

01:45first Prime Minister in 21 years to win consecutive elections.
