00:00The National Disaster Management Agency is deploying an initial team of 10 personnel
00:07to Myanmar to assist in search and rescue efforts following the devastating earthquake.
00:13According to Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan, the team is scheduled to arrive in
00:18Yangon at 1.30pm on Saturday.
00:21He said their mission is to assess the situation on the ground and report back to another team
00:26that will arrive later with the necessary equipment.
00:30He added that NADMA has been actively coordinating with the Myanmar Embassy in Kuala Lumpur to
00:36facilitate the rescue efforts.
00:38Separately, Mohamad said ASEAN member states will work closely to coordinate humanitarian
00:44assistance, facilitate relief operations, and ensure timely and effective humanitarian
00:49response in Myanmar and northern Thailand.
00:53These efforts will be carried out with the support of the ASEAN Coordinating Centre
00:57for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management.
01:01He further highlighted that the disaster has led to significant loss of life, injuries
01:06and widespread destruction, particularly in Mandalay, Naypyitaw, Bangkok, Chiang Mai and
01:12surrounding areas.
01:13ASEAN, he said, stands ready to support relief and recovery efforts, aligning its response
01:19with priorities set by Myanmar and Thailand to ensure those affected receive the help
01:25they urgently need.
