00:00I'm Dr. Jane Morrigan, a cardiologist here to talk with you about your heart health.
00:11Many don't realize they're at risk at all, often dismissing the connection between age
00:17and heart health risks, believing they're fine because why they feel young or they lack
00:23family history or think they have no risk factors.
00:27But the prevalence of heart disease, including hypertension or high blood pressure, chronic
00:33heart disease, heart failure, and stroke increases from about 40% in men and women ages 40-59
00:42to 70-75% in those 60-79 years of age and up to 86% once you reach 80 years of age or
00:52older.
00:53This is one of the reasons I'm partnering with Bayer Aspirin, who's working to empower
00:59Americans to take proactive steps toward their heart health.
01:03For one, we're encouraging individuals to take a simple two-minute heart health risk
01:09assessment at seeyourrisks.com.
01:14While this does not replace an assessment by a qualified healthcare professional, we
01:19encourage you to always talk to your doctor or healthcare professional about your heart
01:25health.
01:26The assessment, however, helps to uncover potential heart health risk factors such as
01:31high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and smoking.
01:36So what are some simple steps that everyone can do to protect their heart health?
01:41There's really so much you can do that's quick and easy.
01:44Try taking a 30-minute walk.
01:46A 30-minute walk per day, five days a week, really goes a long way towards longevity.
01:53One of my favorites is to sign up for a Pilates class.
01:56As a Pilates instructor, I really encourage that.
02:00Or adjust your diet to include more lean meats, fruit, and vegetables.
02:07Go to seeyourrisks.com and take the two-minute heart health risk assessment and learn more
02:15about your heart health.
02:17And of course, always, always speak to your doctor about your results and about your cardiovascular
02:24health.
