During a House Democratic Leadership press briefing on Wednesday, Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-CA) spoke about the health of the economy amid President Trump's tariffs.

00:00Michael.
00:01Go ahead, Scott.
00:02Thank you, Mr. Chair.
00:03Donald Trump has painted this picture of his first few weeks as cleaning up the mess that
00:09the Biden administration and Democratic-controlled Congress left behind.
00:14He has a powerful media ecosystem behind him that, you know, a lot of Americans really
00:20turn to for their news.
00:21How do you break through that information gap and help folks understand the things that
00:28you did in previous Congress?
00:30What you all will do if you were to get those gavel backs, given the fact that he has such
00:34control of such a powerful megaphone now that he's president again and has this big media
00:39ecosystem behind him?
00:40Well, and we saw 99 minutes of lies in front of the American public.
00:45We're not trying to compete with that.
00:47We're trying to talk directly to the American people about our positive vision for the future,
00:53but it's based on data.
00:56The American people can see that Donald Trump was given an economy that was on the way up.
01:02We could come from the pandemic, worked our way through that, stock market, inflation
01:09going down, stock market going up.
01:11It's completely inverted now.
01:14Stock market crumbling, consumer confidence declining.
01:17That's the Donald Trump legacy.
01:20That's what Donald Trump's economy and his tariffs, on again, off again, all of that
01:25uncertainty, the American public.
01:26They may not follow every in and out, but they know that these guys are not fighting
01:31for them.
01:32And so I appreciate the DPCC and Leader Jeffries offering an opportunity for us to get our
01:39message out in a different format during the joint address to Congress.
01:44Collective eyeballs looking at content is something that we're all talking about now.
01:50We're doing different things.
01:52We're trying to reach more people to get our positive message about the country and what
01:57we stand for.
01:58Those are things that we can control and that we can do.
02:00We're not trying to compete with Donald Trump for that megaphone that he has with the conservative
02:05media apparatus behind him.
02:07We're trying to focus on the American people and to show them how we're fighting, what
02:12we're fighting for, and the importance of this moment.
02:15That's what this vote was about.
02:16We stood up for the American people.
02:19And we will, time and time again, have their interests in mind when we're voting to protect
02:24health care, to protect investments in life-saving medicine.
02:28All of those things House Democrats continue to do.
02:31Whip Clark.
