Brighton 2-1 Fulham: View from the pressbox
Transcript
00:00Well, hi Sam. Some late drama again at the Amex Stadium. Looked to be heading for a 1-1 draw but right at the end Harrison Reid just clipped Jal Pedro in the box.
00:11Pedro went down and then dusted himself down and converted a late penalty. So, three points for Brighton which moves them up to six in the table.
00:20It's a brilliant result, brilliant result. Obviously we know all about Fulham and the threat that they pose Brighton.
00:26It's a team that Brighton really struggled to win against in recent times but this is a different Brighton. Six wins in a row now in all competitions.
00:33It's just incredible the form that Brighton are on and they just seem to be in that kind of run of form where you just kind of know a goal is going to come.
00:40You know obviously it's already gone five minutes of injury time. You feel like the whistle is going to come any minute.
00:45But they're just relentlessly attacking and you kind of just have a feeling that something is going to happen and obviously that penalty decision is made and Pedro is never going to miss.
00:54He doesn't miss, he doesn't miss. They've got so many options from the bench now haven't they?
00:58Like Solly Marsh came on, Simon Idinga came on as well. Danny Welbeck came on. I thought he was just going to score that header towards the end there.
01:06But they've got so many match winners in that team now haven't they?
01:09Yeah, it's incredible and you've just seen the number of players that are coming on late in the game as we've discussed before.
01:14He's not being forced into these changes. He's able to decide when he wants to change things around and bring on some players to really kind of make an impact at certain times in the match.
01:23Brighton have got some injuries and lots of key players out of action. It doesn't seem to be affecting them at all at the moment.
01:28Fulham are obviously, as we've mentioned, a really strong team and obviously going for a European place as well.
01:34So it's a really big game in that sense and a really big win for Brighton I should say to be able to kind of extend that gap and to move further ahead of Fulham.
01:42Fulham are so well organised and compact and probably would have taken a draw on them. Both teams probably would have taken a draw.
01:48I thought they looked good for them.
01:49Definitely would have deserved a draw I think for them. So they were very unfortunate at the end there for that.
01:54But from a Brighton point of view it was brilliant and the celebrations in the Amex were great to see as well.
02:00And such a great performance but just a word on Van Hecht for his first goal. Some header wasn't it in the first half?
02:06Yeah, brilliant header. We had a great view of it. It was kind of one of those where you knew it was going in as soon as you connected with it.
02:12It kind of seemed to bend out and then come back in again last minute going off the post.
02:16Brilliant cross from Iyari and obviously two former Blackburn loanees combining for that goal.
02:22It was Van Hecht's first goal for Brighton as well so a great time to do it after Fulham had taken the lead.
02:28You feared the worst. Fulham yet again are going to do one over Brighton.
02:32It was a great response to get the level at the four-half time and such a brilliant header.
02:36A great way to get your first goal for the club.
02:39The defenders haven't really chipped in with too many goals this season have they?
02:43The likes of Van Hecht, Adam Webster and Lewis Dunn haven't got on the score sheet.
02:47So it's really important to get the defenders scoring isn't it?
02:50100%. It really makes a difference in those kind of close games and it kind of adds that little bit of attacking threat into the box.
02:55No set pieces that can really make a difference.
02:57And six in the table. Do you think they can now go on and seal that place in Europe?
03:01It's looking good for them now isn't it?
03:03It's looking really good. Just keep this going, keep this momentum going.
03:05There's absolutely no reason why not.
03:07We can continue to drop in points every week in the league.
03:10Brighton have been six wins, including that FA Cup game, in a row.
03:15It's an incredible run of form and long may it continue.
03:18Great stuff, great stuff.
