00:03Jerseys Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant wore during their rookie seasons are hitting the auction block.
00:08But if you have aspirations of a winning bid, you're going to need some deep pockets.
00:12Sotheby's announced that it expects the jerseys to sell for around $10 million a piece.
00:17The reason? The pieces are just too rare.
00:19According to the auction house, early rookie jerseys represent the genesis of an athlete's career
00:24and that the historical weight of these two jerseys is difficult to overstate as they are as rare as they come.
00:29The Jordan jersey is from his first game as a Chicago Bull on October 5, 1984.
00:34Kobe's jersey was worn during his first preseason game and his first regular season game with the Lakers in 1996.
00:40Jordan has seen one of his previous jerseys eclipse the $10 million mark.
00:44That one he wore in Game 1 of the 1998 NBA Finals.
00:47However, that's less than half the amount the most expensive jersey ever put up at auction brought in.
00:53The jersey Babe Ruth wore when he called his shot in the 1932 World Series sold for more than $24 million in August of 2024.
