00:04Fed-up Derbyshire villages are renewing calls for average speed cameras on what has become
00:08known as the county's most dangerous road, following three accidents in just one weekend.
00:14Ashover Community Action Group say last weekend's sunny weather saw motorists driving through
00:19Kelstead Village at what they describe as ridiculous speeds. Between Saturday and Monday
00:24there were three clashes, including one which left a car on its roof. The group says that
00:29during February, speed indication devices in the village recorded 10 vehicles speeding
00:34to the 40mph limit at more than 110mph. The highest recorded speed was 128mph, while 859
00:43vehicles were caught doing more than 75mph, all showing what they describe as a total
00:47disregard for road safety and the law. A spokesperson for Derbyshire County Council said,
00:53We are in the process of installing average cameras at two other sites in the county,
00:58as these were sites selected and funded by the government under the Safer Roads Fund
01:02rather than the Council. We agree that the A632 should be included in this national scheme
01:07for average speed cameras and other measures, and we continue to make representations to
01:11the Department of Transport for funding for this.
01:17Plans for a 14m high wind turbine in a Derbyshire field have been refused by the High Peak Borough
01:22Council, who say the proposals are inappropriate development. Owners of Coatbank Farming Chimney
01:28will not be allowed to install a 14m high wind turbine at their property, after the
01:32plans were refused. Ben Haywood for Peak District Borough Council said, The proposed development
01:38comprises inappropriate development in the Greenbelt. It was noted that the introduction
01:42of the wind turbine was not considered to be harmful to the immediate rural landscape.
01:47However, Mr Haywood said, Owing to its prominence and sensitive location, the turbine would
01:53result in significant harm to the setting of the Peak District National Park.
