00:00On a quiet suburban street in Cairns, police alleged a horrific crime occurred in the early
00:08hours of the morning.
00:09With over 38 years of policing experience, this to me has been one of the most abhorrent
00:16acts committed during a break and enter that I've been privy to.
00:20It's alleged three teenage boys broke into a home in Menunda about 3.30 this morning,
00:26armed with knives.
00:28Police say a couple in their 30s were asleep in bed when the intruders started making demands.
00:33Whilst one male offender has held or detained the male occupant in the house, two others
00:40have escorted the female occupant at knife point to an outside area where she has been
00:45sexually assaulted.
00:47The offenders fled.
00:48Two suspects aged 15 and 16 were taken into custody about an hour later.
00:55Police are still searching for a third boy.
00:57The allegations are sickening and they're harrowing and I want Queenslanders to know
01:06that bringing justice to this family and the state is my number one priority.
01:11Our victims as I say will live with this experience for the rest of their lives and our hearts
01:19do go out to them for what they have had to live through.
01:22Police are urging anyone who saw the three boys walking around Menunda before the alleged
01:27offending to come forward.
01:29Counselling is being offered to the victims.
