Au lendemain de la première étape du Tour de l'Algarve et de sa fin ubuesque, ce jeudi avait lieu une étape très importante en vue du classement général, avec une arrivée au sommet à l'Alto da Foia. Comme souvent, la formation UAE Team Emirates XRG a dominé cette deuxième étape, avec la victoire du Suisse Jan Christen devant... son coéquipier Joao Almeida ! Ainsi, les favoris Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) et Primoz Roglic (Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe) n'ont rien pu faire et ont dû se contenter respectivement de la 6e et 9e place, à une dizaine de secondes du vainqueur du jour.
