Authorities said around 200,000 people gathered in Munich to protest against the extreme right and recent overtures by Germany's conservatives to the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) ahead of fraught elections this month. "I want to send out a signal against the current shift to the right that is sweeping the whole country", says Götz von Aulock, a 78-year-old demonstrator.
