00:00It's time to dive deeper as one cricket analyst is saying that there's still hope for Joshua
00:04De Silva to return to the West Indies test side.
00:07De Silva was on the bench during the recent test series in Pakistan which saw both teams
00:11playing to a 1-0 result.
00:13According to Joseph Reds Pereira, it's necessary for the wicketkeeper to shine in the ongoing
00:18Regional 40 tournament.
00:21He must have an outstanding season for Trinidad and Tobago, both with the gloves and with
00:26the bat.
00:27If he can have an outstanding season, he's setting up the platform to challenge.
00:33I think he needs to maybe reach out to Ramdin and Derek Murray for any discussions and advice
00:43that they might have.
00:45They've been watching him.
00:46There's the videos that he can turn to.
00:49And of course, I did also talk to a former West Indies wicketkeeper and he felt that
00:55Joshua De Silva should cut maybe about 10 or 15 pounds.
00:59It would help his footwork.
01:02He needs to improve the takes down the leg side.
01:06But he's got the youth on his side and these things are easy to overcome.
01:13Meanwhile, Dr. Pereira is strongly against the potential two-tier system for Test Cricket,
01:19saying he isn't for it.
01:21Well, ICC Chairman Jay Shah is considering such a format with the likes of Bangladesh
01:25and the West Indies being demoted to the lower tier with Afghanistan, Ireland and Zimbabwe.
01:31Dr. Pereira says if such a thing happens, the top-tier teams should still be able to
01:36play those in the lower tier.
01:39It's not in the best interest of Test Cricket, but the top tier is a club that want to gain
01:48more money than they are getting now, irrespective of how the game will develop in the second tier.
01:55If we do have to have a two-tier passed by the ICC, we must have a promotion-relegation system.
02:04We must have a situation where the top tier still must play the bottom tier in Test Series
02:11on an organized basis.
02:13We want to see greater financial benefits towards the bottom tier and that is the only
02:23way that it could in fact operate to benefit Test Cricket getting better and of course
02:31the bottom tier also getting better.
