00:00The public is now getting excited, especially the students, about the government's free Wi-Fi in some public places.
00:07That's the story of BN Manalo.
00:11Currently, the Grade 12 students, Rafael and Karl, are undergoing their on-the-job training in the Barangay Hall of Tandang Sora in Quezon City.
00:20Some of their tasks are encoding, arranging important documents, and doing research.
00:27That's why free Wi-Fi is a big thing for them, because it makes their work easier.
00:33It helps us because we are doing our O.G.T. here.
00:37Like that, we are doing research about O.G.T. in our work.
00:43It helps us. For example, we are doing something on the computer, or sometimes we don't know what we're doing.
00:51So, we are doing research on our phone.
00:54Aside from the Barangay Hall, they are also using free Wi-Fi in some public places.
01:01I'd like to say thank you, because it's really helpful during O.G.T. and other working hours.
01:07Thank you very much, government, for your free Wi-Fi. I hope we can use it for a long time.
01:13The government spent more than 7.5 billion pesos for the Free Wi-Fi for All program under the 2025 National Budget.
01:21According to a lawmaker, it's worth triple of the previous funds allocated for the program.
01:28This is what will be used for expanding the password-free public Internet hotspots throughout the Philippines.
01:35The additional funds will also be used to build more than 50,000 public Wi-Fi hotspots,
01:41especially in the so-called geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas, or GIDAS.
01:47So, to all my fellow public servants, my challenge to you is to spread these initiatives to all corners of the Philippines,
01:54especially to those who remain without access to the Internet.
01:59The so-called free Wi-Fi hotspots will also help improve public access to online learning and distance education.
02:07It is also a target for our fellow Filipinos who live in rural communities to have access to important online resources,
02:16such as government skills training and services, and to help them find work and make a living.
02:23Let us remain steadfast in our belief that working side by side, pressing on, keeping our promises one by one,
02:30we will attain a Bagong Pilipinas that fosters a more secure, comfortable, and fulfilled life for everyone.
02:37According to the December 2020 Global Speed Test Index Report of OCLA,
02:42the average mobile Internet speed in the Philippines is 36.36 megabits per second.
02:48This is lower than our neighboring country in Southeast Asia.
02:54Because of this, some lawmakers have called for House Bill 10215 to be passed,
03:00which is a bill that requires private telecommunications companies to accelerate the delivery of mobile Internet speeds to the country.
03:08BN Manalo for Pambansang TV in Bagong Pilipinas.
