The Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta is the busiest in the world, however it recently received another less attractive accolade. 00:07According to the Transportation Security Administration,
00:10the Skyport was also ranked number one for most firearms found at security.
00:15Authorities say some 440 guns were caught as those carrying them went through TSA security
00:20checkpoints. That's 50 more than the second place winner, Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport,
00:25where 390 firearms were discovered. This is the ninth year in a row the
00:30Atlanta Airport has taken the prize. However, they still did better than 2023.
00:34That year saw 451 firearms found, meaning 2024 saw a 2.4% decrease in guns.
00:41This follows the national average as well,
00:43with the TSA reporting that guns and carry-ons were down 1% year over year.
00:47That's 6,678 firearms caught going through security across the country in 2024.
00:54That's 18 carry-on attempts every day, of which 94% of them were found loaded.
00:59Those attempting to travel with a gun, take note,
01:01as those caught with a firearm could face civil fines upwards of $15,000.
