00:0050 yards to all but put the game away.
00:07All right, that was Jim Nance, CBS.
00:1249ers lose, Goo. 29-17 to the Dolphins.
00:15Yeah.
00:16They're 6-9.
00:18And officially eliminated.
00:20They were officially eliminated before the game.
00:22Yes, they were.
00:23And I work with the guy, and I thought of you.
00:25You were on my couch with me yesterday.
00:27Like, you know what?
00:28I'm a bit too hard on the Niners.
00:30Forget the playoffs.
00:31Let me just see what they got.
00:33And, Stani, my takeaways were I'm still concerned about everything I was concerned about going in.
00:39How did you watch yesterday?
00:41What's the – Debo Samuel.
00:43What did you have for breakfast?
00:45Because that looked like the Debo experience we're used to.
00:48But I'm like, is that a good or a bad thing?
00:50Like, where the hell had that been?
00:52And, you know, again, Stani, 11 penalties.
00:54That's not going to get it done.
00:56They lose the game, but they lose the game in a fashion – and I'm not pointing the finger.
01:01I'm putting it on everybody, right, including coaches.
01:04They got the ball with a chance to go down and win the game, and they didn't do it.
01:09Purdy threw a pick.
01:11I know the people out there saying he got hit.
01:13It happened.
01:14But the bottom line is you had three more downs, Stani.
01:17You could have did something else with the ball to stay alive.
01:20But they lose.
01:21Like, that was a microcosm of their season.
01:24Yeah, I mean, I don't know how you would look at that game yesterday,
01:28see the overall season for this team,
01:30and not kind of worry about what's going to happen moving forward.
01:37They didn't play well again yesterday.
01:39They were sloppy.
01:40They had 11 turnovers.
01:42The numbers looked fine.
01:43Penalties, yeah.
01:44When I say turnovers, yeah, penalties.
01:48The numbers, yeah.
01:49They accumulated some yardage, but they scored 17 points.
01:52That's it.
01:53The defense, with a chance to hold again, gives up a long run,
01:59and they're just a lot of the same things week after week after week.
02:04Brock Purdy was, I don't know.
02:08He was fine, I guess, but was he good enough?
02:13I don't know.
02:14I don't know.
02:16They're now 6-9.
02:18I mean, this has been a nightmare season,
02:20and it does feel like at times, Goo,
02:22that they're not just an off season of getting healthy away
02:26from getting back to where they were.
02:28No doubt.
02:29And you just talk about the injuries.
02:30Jalen Moore was in for Trent Williams.
02:32He goes out.
02:33Banks comes in.
02:34He goes out, and they're down to Burford.
02:36But I saw our guy Dibbs.
02:38He sent out a text that hit me yesterday late nights, Don.
02:40He wasn't late night.
02:41After the game, he felt like Shanahan coach scared.
02:44And it was interesting because I jotted down on their first series,
02:47it was fourth and one.
02:49They're in their own territory.
02:51They're not past midfield.
02:52But I thought to myself, what the hell?
02:55Let them hang.
02:56Take advantage of every situation.
02:59What have you got to lose?
03:00A game that means much of nothing.
03:03And just from a coaching standpoint, I thought right there on the fourth and one,
03:07go for it because we've kind of seen that when the stakes mattered.
03:12And for him to punt, that's not why they lost.
03:14I just thought to myself, that was a missed opportunity.
03:17But you are right.
03:18If I had a dollar for every time a writer or some talking pundit on the radio
03:23was talking about basically insinuating the Niners are going to have
03:27a brand-new offensive line come next year, Stiney, I'm here to tell you,
03:31no, they're not.
03:32So I don't know.
03:33The D-line needs some infusion and health.
03:37But Nick Bosa, what are we – Stiney, I don't know what to do.
03:41If you're out there, do I judge you accordingly,
03:43or do I say you're dealing with something?
03:46I don't know what's going on with Nick Bosa, but, Stiney,
03:49he is not what I was in high school.
03:52He is not disruptive.
03:54And I don't know what's going on, but it starts with – he's just one of a few
03:58that just they're out there.
04:01And I don't have the answers, but I am concerned.
04:04Is one offseason enough to get this ship headed back in the right direction?
04:09And then you've got to pay the quarterback who, again, did he lose the game?
04:14No, but he didn't win it.
04:16Is he a weapon?
04:18Well, if everything's good around me, he is.
04:21I'm nervous about what Brock Purdy is, Stiney.
04:25I'm being real, man.
04:27I mean, again, I think we kind of know what he is.
04:31He's fine.
04:32He's a good quarterback.
04:33He's got time, makes the right decisions.
04:37When he's got personnel around him, he's pretty good.
04:40But when things break down around him, he's like every other quarterback.
04:43They look – nothing like they look when they're getting protection.
04:48So I think it's a combination of a lot of things.
04:51And, yeah, I mean there's just no getting around it.
04:54This offseason with what they're going to do with Brock Purdy is going to go a long
04:58way toward dictating how successful they are in the future.
05:02And I keep hearing from a segment of writers and fans that he's still going to get
05:10re-signed and get a long-term contract and he's going to be the quarterback of the future.
05:15But I don't know how much of a sure thing that is anymore.
05:18I'm not talking about a sure thing of signing him or keeping him here.
05:23I think he's probably going to be kept here.
05:25But do we really know how good Brock Purdy is?
05:28I think we've got an idea of how good he is.
05:32But when you're going to pay him as much as they may end up paying him,
05:36do you need a quarterback who's better than him?
05:38That's what this is going to come down to, I think, in the offseason for the San Francisco 49.
05:43And, Stony, I'm not mad at you, but also another thing that's bothering me,
05:47bugging me, shout-out to Atko, that's Friday, what's bugging you,
05:51is all of a sudden now, Stony, with his stature not being the tallest quarterback,
05:56I'm starting to see a lot of tip balls.
05:58And they were right there.
05:59Kittle was wide open.
06:01He made the read.
06:02And now I just feel like D-Lyman, no, if I can't get home,
06:05I'm going to go Matumbo and play volleyball and tip the ball.
06:09And that's what happened.
06:10Now, I know I'm not Jaworski, I'm not a quarterback aficionado,
06:14but I do know, Stony, when you're not that tall back there,
06:17that those things can happen.
06:19And there's almost like there's nothing you can do about it.
06:22So if it's a three, four-step drop and you're releasing the ball,
06:25well, now if I'm going up against Purdy, I'm going to play those passing lanes.
06:29And I, just for me, Stony, have seen that too much.
06:33Now, is that a byproduct of the offensive line?
06:36But I don't know how it is you could put that on him
06:39when the D-Lyman are backing up to just, okay, he's short.
06:43Like, that scares me if I'm going to go all in
06:47and pay the top-tier quarterback price and know that there's some limitations.
06:52Physically.
06:53I mean, there are.
06:55I mean, it's not hard to see.
06:58I'm going to wait for you to fight.
07:00He doesn't have the strongest arm.
07:01Okay.
07:03He's questionable when it comes to bad weather.
07:08He is limited because he's 6'1".
07:11That's just the way it is.
07:13So, again, we know he's not a 6'5'' quarterback
07:17that can stand back in there, pick you apart,
07:20and if the rush comes, scramble for 10 yards.
07:22I mean, that's not really who he is.
07:26And it was good enough a year ago or a couple years ago,
07:30but this year it wasn't good enough.
07:32And the question now becomes, if you pay him a lot of money,
07:37will you have enough money to put a legitimate team around him?
07:41And everybody knows that's the question.
07:43Nobody's hiding from that question.
07:46It's a fact.
07:48I mean, what do you pay this guy,
07:49and how much of the cap is he going to occupy in terms of the percentage?
07:53And then what can you put around him, and will it be good enough?
07:56Yeah, Stiney, I hear you, but how do you decipher, to me,
08:00paying a quarterback, let's just say an absorbent amount of money,
08:07and you know that you got warts in other places,
08:11but if you're going to give a guy the big money, a quarterback,
08:15I want to feel like, yeah, we know we got warts, but we got him.
08:19We got him.
08:21So that goes against everybody telling me what's around him is eroding
08:24or it hasn't been up to par.
08:26That's why you're getting subpar play from the quarterback.
08:29But I can't justify giving Purdy the bag when I don't think he's a weapon
08:35because we're porous in other areas.
08:37Like, life's not perfect, and I don't know if this whole line,
08:40unless they do a whole Joan Rivers facelift, Stiney,
08:43and I don't know if they have the resources to do that, free agency
08:46or whatnot, plus the draft, but what are the chances that this offensive line
08:51is going to put Brock Purdy in a situation that's better than this year?
08:55Like, I want my quarterback getting top money to feel like a weapon,
08:59and for the last 8 to 10 games, Stiney, I feel like Brock Purdy watching him,
09:05I'm getting Jimmy G vibes.
09:08And that's no shade.
09:10Of course it is.
09:11You can't win games.
09:12Stop.
09:13That is shade.
09:14No, anybody who's compared, everybody believed that Purdy was better
09:18than Garoppolo.
09:19So if you're saying you're seeing Jimmy Garoppolo, that is shade,
09:22and it means that Purdy's regressed because he's been better than Garoppolo
09:25the last couple of years.
09:26And I'm the guy that said he should get a blank check.
09:30Coming into this season, I was holding Brock Purdy to his standard,
09:34but, Stiney, there are, we talked about it, some limitations,
09:38and I don't know what you do, but I just wonder what Kyle is thinking
09:42about Brock Purdy.
09:43Is this a nothing burger, and when we get healthy, he'll be better?
09:47I don't know.
09:48Yeah, I don't know either.
09:50I still think that the 49ers are going to obviously try to keep Purdy
09:56as their starting quarterback, as their franchise quarterback.
09:59Can they get him for 35?
10:01I don't know.
10:0240?
10:03I don't know.
10:0450?
10:0560?
10:06I don't know what the number's going to be, but I know that no matter
10:08what the number is, and this is what I'm starting to think more and more
10:11about is I don't know how much it matters whether the number's 40 or 60
10:17because they're going to feel it, the 49ers,
10:21because right now he's making $1 million,
10:23and next year he's going to make $1 million,
10:25and then the year after that is when it's going to jump up in a big way,
10:29and that's when we're going to find out what they can put around him.
10:35But what about, and I get that.
10:38I guess I don't like that, Stiney.
10:39What can they do?
10:40In the last two games, right on the table, brought to you by ADCO early,
10:44two purty interceptions essentially ended the game,
10:47and I know we can break it down.
10:49He got hit.
10:50He could have threw the ball away, but the game against the Rams,
10:53he threw an interception, and people are like, you're being greedy.
10:55Did you have to throw that?
10:56There were four dudes in the area.
10:58That's just a factoid, okay, and that blew the game against the Rams,
11:02and then, again, just like you've been beating that drum,
11:06the Niners offensive this season have had the ball with a chance to go win the
11:11game or put themselves in a better position to win said game,
11:15and for whatever reason, the car breaks down.
11:18Yeah, I think if you made an honest assessment,
11:23the defense has probably been a little bit better than the offense this year,
11:27but, again, the way I look at yesterday's game is the 49ers are down 22-17,
11:35and they need a game-winning drive, and Purdy throws an interception.
11:40So now they're in trouble, and they need to stop, but they can't get a stop,
11:44and instead they give up the game on the ground.
11:48They couldn't, once again,
11:49couldn't stop the running game when a team was trying to run out the clock.
